Tried coping the install onto the hard drive first then running install? Maybe even ISO it?
You're gonna have to download at least part of the game. There's been a patch since the DVDs were minted.
WTF, there is no way in hell the patches since release are almost half the size of the game... Searched the net for any solutions...nothing, there is got to be a better way than this...I buy retail because my internet bandwith is at a premium, i know ill have to download something but not half the friggin game :(
Edit.... on top of that it hangs halfway through the disk install...7836 mb exactly for ages... not happy that ill have to pay extra in internet dowloads because the install is screwy :(
The game won't install from disc. The disc space is getting allocated, but Steam won't copy any of the DVD content. I'm pretty annoyed by this, because my internet connection is very limited ATM (5gb limit) and that's the main reason why I have bought the physical copy of the game. I was ready to get the game updated and activated via internet, but the need of downloading it as a whole was a very unpleasant surprise. I tried to change the installation folders or install the game in various languages, all for nothing.
You can't be serious guys. This game aims at the "old" gamers that mostly, just like me, aren't really Steam fanboys (because regional blocades, DRM and tons of other restrictions). I would rather get the game on 4-6 CDs (just like the old times, do you remember Baldur's Gate?) than downloading it at the moment.
Right now I'm just packing the whole fckin PC on the back of my motorcycle just to visit my bro in other city, to download this damn thing. Sorry for my anger, but I really dislike those restrictions everywhere.
Surely there hasn't been 5.7GIG of updates, already?
Is there a workaround for this?
If you have limited Internet access, then realistically your best option is to purchase from GOG - you'll still have to download the game but you can do so using another system or Internet connection (e.g. use a public library to copy the installer onto a USB stick) which you can't do with Steam.
As for patches, this is a new game and all new games tend to require large patches. Your best option may be to wait for a few months (the next patch, 1.05 is due in May) and then (re)purchase the GOG version since Steam is inevitably going to require more bandwidth."
There's no indication that Steam is simply downloading update data, it just begins downloading "stuff" immediately after allocating free space. The disc never spins up once you've entered the product key and accepted various license agreements that the installer on the DVD disk displays.
It's gonna take 4 hours for me to finish the 5GB download the DVD installer started, instead of taking less than half an hour if it installed straight from the disc and than updated...
Now I find out the disc is as useless as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ coaster. I could have just bought it off Steam cheaper. If it's a 4gb download each that's going to cost us another $80. Seriously pissed off right now. Why even give us a disc if it does nothing? There's content on there, so there must ba workaround.
You can whine and rant all you want, but it won't change reality. You can download the game on a machine that has unmetered bandwidth and create a "backup" to install on your metered connections.
Also you seem to be forgetting all of the patches games like this is guaranteed to get. You're going to pay those 80 bucks down the line anyway from patches post-release.
