It was as simple as finding the voice clips you wanted to use for whatever events/voice set, and renaming them to the correct filename.
Not sure about how it works now, with Steam... since you can't readily edit the local data/mp3/whatever files.
It WAS possible under the old Infiniti engine, back when you installed everything locally, and there was no online/DRM stuff to verify the game files when it started.
There are empty folders in the vo assets folder at steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\data\audio\vocalization\vo assets, so I'm not sure what that actually stores (if anything) or the file structure for overloads if it's embedded in the data files.
No idea what is that
Really hope developers comment on this, i just can't play game of this kind without my first IWD voices :D
1. Go to the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\data\audio\vocalization\vo wav files\player (Windows 8 or 7).
2. Copy the voice set that you plan to replace. In my instance, I copied all 72 instances of male stoic.
3. Create 2 folders on your desktop - POE Voice Set Original (for backup purposes) and POE Custom Voice Set. This folder is where you'll overwrite the voice instances.
4. Paste the 72 instances of Males stoic into both POE folders.
5. You can then play all 72 sounds using Mozilla Firefox. You'll need to rename your voice files to match theirs.. For example: player_voice_set_m_stoic_0001, 0002, etc.
6. Now you simply replace those voices as you see fit. I used Windows Sound Recorder to record myself acting out the lines and used this site : http://audio.online-.../convert-to-ogg to convert my files into the ogg format that Pillars requires. You can also download a free program that will convert them for you.
Below is the script for the voices.
