Where should I go to get an early gun (That isn't the terrible one in the tutorial level)
I wanted to try out firearms on a ranger, but I don't know where to go to get one early on. Technically, there is one exception. In tutorial land, there is a pistol so bad that any normal ranged weapon is far superior. It is slower, does less damage, and suffers more from DT than a normal pistol, where a normal pistol is on-par with a normal crossbow (if slower). Has anyone found an early gun that isn't this piece of junk?

I'm gonna bump this. I'm looking to get a pistol for my wizard, since its been one of my main ideas for several months now to have my wizard use a pistol~

I ~think~ once you complete the side quest for the blacksmith in the first town he may stock pistols. but I don't know for sure. I'm just guessing, since he said his stock would increase.

I'd like to know as well. A pistol or other gun-toting Cipher seems really fun. Bang bang bang, cast cast cast, bang bang bang, cast cast cast, rinse. Repeat. Claim souls and take names

I have found 2 guns in the early sections of the game, attainable going 2-3 zones away from gilded vale. The first is held by a potential companion at Caed Nua, somewhere you must go to advance the plot. He has an unenchanted arquebus. The second requires slightly more work...
Step one: Either role a chracter with high perception, or alternativly go to a inn and hire a merc with 18+ perception to serve as your eyes and ears. For convienence, you can make this the same character who focuses on mechanical for your trap-snatching and lock-picking needs.
Step two: go south from gilded vale first to Magran's fork, you may want to follow the road to find the zone's namesake, and then go south to Anslog's Compass.
Step 3: hug the left side of the map until you hit the southernmost expense of land, which has 2 npc's of minor importance. Go north and take the first right, and enter the cave. Within are some realativly tough enemies, even on easy, so cheap tactics are suggested. After killing them, search the northern edge of the cave (via stealth) until your spotter notices a hidden cache. Within is a pistol of fine quality, you can enchant the secondary damage and slaying modifiers as desired.

Guns are pretty bad IMO because you have to stand still to reload them. If you interrupt the reload animation, you have to do it all over again.

What Venser said - The pistol in the beach cave is probably your first "real" gun. It's still slow as molasses though.

You can get a really nice pistol from completing a certain quest in the city.

I found a pistol in a Raedric Castle. Its inside somewhere in a drawer or a chest, I don't remember, just loot everything.

The dissapointer (pistol in the first area) sucks of course, but if you sell it to the merchant guy he'll give you 700 gold instead of 200.

I found a fine pistol in the cave in something's compass (area by the sea) its hidden, so you'll need to scout for it.

I went to that cave in two diff save files and both were a fine wand and not a fine pistol.

If you enchant The Dissapoiter with the "fine" quality you repace the "terrible" quality - and you'll have a relatively good pistol for the beginning.

This^ the materials are not too hard to find either for the enchantment.

I haven't played since the 3rd week after this game came out, so a patch may have changed things. Or the chest has random items in it.

May I ask where this is, in the cave? I remember this cache, but I cannot remember the exact spot in the cave.
