Best Gunslinger class?
Ranger?
Cipher?
Are pistols or other guns a viable alternative to bows and crossbows?

From my understanding Guns do the most damage out of all ranged but have moderate acc and have a long reload time as we are talking black powder so it's down to your pref in terms or ranged weapons

According to the wiki, there are pistols, blundebuss (shotgun) and a type of rifle in game. They each having high reload times, relatively poor accuracy. The upside is that they have high damage, and can penetrate the "arcane veil," a common magical defense. Well, that, and they're kinda cool. In the beta, I played around with a pistol and a blunderbuss, they seemed viable, but not quite the same as a bow. For example, the blunderbuss can hit multiple targets, which is especially important in building focus as a cipher (the focus built depends on damage dealt), but it has trouble with armor. The pistol is good for damage over the course of the encounter, but nothing too impressive that I saw. The rifle seems pretty good for a ranger or cipher that targets wizards/priests, but it is super slow for building focus.

Doesnt gun in this game has very long reloading time?

I would say ranger would be best for gunslinger, considering they have ranged abilities you can mix with.

I think a gun would be best used as an opening shot before engaging in melee

I like going weapon focus:ruffian with rogues and having them switch between pistols and blunderbusses. Very effective.

Having in the same problem OP. As a ranged class, Rogues will do more damage with any ranged weapon though.

FYI You can't duel wield pistols. That kind of defeats the point of a gunslinger class.

Long loading time pretty much defeats the purpose as well.

I like using guns and rifles as an opener while stealthed. Then switch my range guy to a faster bow after the initial shot with the rifle. Works great.

I dont think Cipher is a gunslinger class. Guns generally have accuracy penalty and cipher already have avarage accuracy. Also as Cipher it is better to start combat with your CC or pure dmg spell, rather than shooting and reloading. You may need your talents for spellcasting, not for pimping shooting. As cipher you may however use ranged just to minimalis effect of general squishnest, and have some freedom with positioning.

Of course Ranger is better gunslinger, since you will be autoattacking much more often, and can ignore INT, and invest talents in shooting. Also Rogues, are always good for dps, and their abilities work with ranged as well. Not to mention that taking as Rogue ruffanian weapon spec make sense for stiletos if we like bouning from 2wh to ranged.

Rogue is agood one, if you have an active Fighter. Being able to fire a high alpha shot with Sneak Attack against a CC'ed opponent is brutal.

Just spec to have an extra weapon slot and quicker switch between weapon sets, and fire them all off in quick succession.

Guns are situational. Use them to open a fight or to attack buffed wizard.\

@Z Lethal:

Lol, that is a good idea, 4 arquebus shots with .5 second switches in between might be devastating.
