Pillars of Eternity
What Class Will You Play First?
I'm thinking Fighter or Barbarian. Always enjoyed playing hard hitting melee classes.

What about you?

6 wood elf rangers 6 pets
Ranger peak my Interest. but.. with my half cook knowledge about the game... mostly video from Youtube only. I will test try everything =P
Since many dialog choices are stat dependent on your main char, like we've seen in the gameplay videos. 18 perception here, 16 there. 12 resolve here, 14 resolve there.

By maxing out these stats - the only reasonable choice for the main character (for me) is a fighter

18might
10con
4dex
18perception
12int
16resolve

Wood elf - to gain bonus defense against range attackers

I first wanted to make a min/max tank with 4 in might and 18 con, but found it to be too much of a downside.

I'd rather sacrifice some dex and con and pick the shield talent that gives additional reflex equal to deflection stat on your shield.

its counterfeit D&D who cares? none of the classes are interesting.

I want to play a ranger, the "Your animal companion is linked with your health bar" thing seems realy interesting, you are basically getting 2 characters in one, but not without it's risks. Plus I adore playing ranged fighthers in games, especially archers.

Besides, someone has to play the generic wood elf ranger with a wolf companion, right? Haha.

In the most recent beta the pet and the ranger were not linked. The ranger just got a rather noticeable debuff when the pet died

Besides that, I found ranger to be a very boring class to play. Low damage, and pretty much all his skills/talents revolved around buffing up the pet.

Rangers are pretty fun but they require alot of micro to keep the pet alive on Hard.

meh. I'd rather play a rogue. WAY more damage, way more micro required.
But yes I agree, the hard difficulty is actually hard, and requires micro no matter what class you choose to play.

My ideal group would consist of
1 fighter - tank
1 druid - loads of aoe dmg spells/debuffs/crazy heals on higher levels
1 chanter - max int to increase song duration. very very nice health(endurance) regen. crazy summon spells
1 priest - heals, debuffs, crazy buffs. must have
1 rogue - crazy consistent damage. If you are thinking of playing on the harder difficulties and will have limited rest supplies - you will need a class that can do big amounts of damage without the need to rest
1 spot open for a story companion

no wizards. wizards suck. unless they will nerf damage spells of priests/druids, then maybe a wizard, but not really.

Wizard was pretty good in my last playthrough. I did hear they were nerfing druids and buffing ciphers.
Any impressions on the monk? From Scott Lufkins videos that class seemed pretty OP compared to all other classes.

What classes are there?
Barbarian, Chanter, Cipher, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard.

Here's a brief video on each:

I usually prefer Wizards in terms of gameplay but I like being very gear dependent like melee classes are, for me that makes the loot aspect more interesting. So I have no idea, I'll probably do both..
Rogue. Sneak....sneak....sneak......BACKSTAB!! *moves back into the shadows*
Godlike, mage. I cant help it. For 20+ years now the only class I really want to play in a fantasy setting is a flawed magic user with high conversation skills. I love getting clobbered, then reassessing my spell/glyph/buff approach and stomping on some faces. I cant get enough of the old dnd feeling of being weak and pathetic and struggling for life for the first half of the game, only to watch your foes perish in a blaze of glory later that the normies in your party can only stare at and go "whoa...."
Prefer a group of mages and one tank that they mercilessly torture and manipulate into taking their blows for them.
