Does anyone know how to solve this diplomatically?

If it is about the third level of Caed Nua, so unfortunately, there is no way to solve this diplomatically.

Nope. It's from the White March expansion. I gave up and killed her and all her dirty orgre friends.
l was able to reach a truce rather easily with honest/rational options (the villagers are after the forge for trade and mean you no harm), and that's despite the fact I'd basically slaughtered the entire tribe on the way to her. Which she acknowledged and was willing to overlook, too.

The only way to avoid killing the tribe would be to sneak past, probably.

I tried those options multiple times and she kept saying she was ok with me leaving, but only if I agreed to leave the white forge alone, which only ever game me the option of saying "no deal".

I think there must have been someone you talked to or something you read that I didn't that opened up an additional dialogue option.
At that point I had at least two options to convince her, one requiring 12 Resolve and the other 13 Intellect. I don't recall doing anything related to this quest before entering the caverns, other than offering to do it for the villagers in the first place.

I also tried sneaking yesterday and avoided killing ogres in the caverns altogether. The matron thanks you for not resorting to unnecessary violence and you get access to a vendor, but otherwise there's no changes or additional rewards. Ogres still become hostile if you go to the lower cavern afterwards.

Anything good at the vendor?
Nothing terribly interesting, except maybe a helmet that provides +3 Might for 20 seconds after a kill. Overall it's just a few items though, plus some scolls, herbs and a handful of minor potions.
on the subject of discussions is there any way out of the conversation with the enemy at the end of His better half that doesn't end in death?

Yes, it required 13 Perception and then 17 Resolve twice for me. My character didn't meet the requirements for several other options which would probably have led to the same outcome.
So, i think your honest/dishonesty, benevolence/cruelty play into this pretty strongly. I found it difficult to get the matron to attack or deny me. Also, having killed only a handful of the ogres inside the cave the remainder on the bottom floor are friendly after speaking with the matron. I know that they assist in a caed nua quest to and may aid you in a battle, i'm unsure if the number of them slain/saved has any affect on this.
