i've only played a little and it seems alright to me, i haven't finished it so i'm only going off the time i have played- i got sidetacked with Fallout 4 and now Path of Exile but i intend to return to the game soon,
The only other game i can recommend is Divinty Original Sin, i would've also said Baldurs Gate but i tried it and i didn't like it but i have only a couple of hours in it so take that as you will
I have already played witcher 3 and Inquisition, I probably will play the other games some time later but I am asking for games like this, not modern 2015 ARPG's (Nothing against them love em alot but im specifically lookign for isometric CRPG's)
Devs of original Fallout took part in it's development
Those series went to the action RPG trope only from the second installment onwards. Still great though (I am probably the one person who thinks Witcher 2 is better than 3).
Also, Icewind Dale isn't bad, a bit hack & slash though.
And yes, Arcanum ( above-mentioned ) - a great steampunk fantasy.
Decent: Icewind Dale
I never got into Neverwinter Nights, I hated the transition from top down strategy to 3rd person view.
forget games like dragon age or the witcher, cause they are action rpg ; OVERALL swordcoast legends which is pure trash. you should look at games like icewind dale 1/2 baldur's gate 1 and 2 , planetscape torment. and if you like turn based games try divinity original sin : one of the brightest masterpieces of the last decade. also serpent in the staglands.
Note that when starting BG1, I recommend to get the Enhanced Editions here for new players due to some improvements with the UI. The gameplay is very similar to Pillars of Eternity with some minor differences (eg. no endurance, just health, no speed up or speed down, different class mechanics). Your characters can also die more easily at low levels like other old games.
Many consider Baldur's Gate 2 to still be the best overall CRPG ever made, although Planescape Torment is better written, BG2 has the best gameplay and content.
Another cool thing is that your character in BG1 carries over to BG2 including their level, the story is connected.
Dragon Age: Origins may be an action RPG, but that's no reason to tell someone to forget it. Even though the is heavy emphasis on action, it still manages to be one of the best RPG's in recent memory. The story, characters, music, locations are all excellent and combine to create an incredibly immersive game. I would definitely recommend it to anybody.
Besides this, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment (which is probably the best top-down RPG ever created, it's basically flawless), and Neverwinter Nights 2 is very good.
^^ pretty much this. I would say first port of call is BGEE and BG2EE. You can get the originals cheaper on GOG and mod them but who cares about a couple of dollars for games as good as those. With the EE's they just work out of the box.
Tho I am still abit iffy on icewind dale and arcanum. Dont know very much on icewind dale and I heard arcanum was abit dated.
There is going to be a bridge between BG1:EE and BG2:EE called Siege of Dragonspear, which will help tie the two games together in one long story arc, so you will get oodles of adventure time with it.
