Kana vs. Sagani vs. Hiravias
Hey guys,

As the title says, I am on the fence on which two to choose out of these three, I just switched out Durance for Grieving Mother - that seemed like a no brainer to me.

But on Hiravias, Kana, and Sagani - I am not so sure. Which two should I keep in my party?

Kana has cool summons, but it takes time to stack up 3 chants. The fight is mostly over by then. His ranged bonus buff seems useful.

Sagani isn't too bad either. Her pet can engage any enemies that stray too close to my squishies. Not many abilities other than Wounded Shot.

I haven't played Hiravias much so I really don't kow much about him.

Playing on Normal and my current fixed party makeup is Barbarian, Edar, Grieving Mother, and Aloth.

Any ideas would be cool. Thank.

Hiravias has good AoE damage+stun spells. And he can hit hard in spiritshift form.
Cast Returning Storm->shapeshift->profit. Just level him with +spell and Heart of the Storm talents.
Sagani is too narrow and to synergy with her you'll need to micro. But you'll get her companion too.
Kana just chant. Some little buffs. I've got not much battles where i can summon lvl 1, cause battles ends too fast.

I can say that Hiravias is a must have, if your PC is not a druid.
While I have had all NPCs in my group and have done all their individual quest my favorite group configuration consists of Eder, Durance, Sagani, Kana, and Aloth

I been really impressed with Sagani as a character. She been consistent in her damage ouput. Her little fox comes in handy with that knock down ability.

I made Kana my off tank however I am underwelmed with the chanter class. By the time his ability to summon or cast any meaningful spell is ready the battle is already over. I think Obsidian needs to rethink their casting componet for this class to make it more useful. Their little buffs are cool. Pallegina would make a better off tank but I like Kana as a character more than Pallegina, however combat wise He is the weakest link of my group.

I wasn't impress with Hiravias. I guess I just don't understand how to use a druid effectively and I didn't like Hiravias as a character.

I guess it comes down to personal tastes in NPCs. Since I usually play as a Wizard in RPGs I would have preferred a high damage melee character instead of Aloth.

May favorit is absolutley a chanter. I played over 1000 hours and all in PoD . In PoP SOLO I played a Monk, a Rogue. and a Chanter, and the Chanter was the Best. My favorite group is Eder, Monk, Rogue, Chanter, Hiravias, Aloth.

How do you use/build your chanter It seems it takes forever to get to a to a summon phase. It's mind boogling you can solo with this class. I would think you would be disabled and half dead by the time your ability to summon anything came around.
I have only just started playing so I lack the experience. But what I noticed is this:

when the fight is over before the Kana comes into play, a 6th character is unnecessary anyway. But Kana is invaluable in protracted and difficult fights, where it's actually him who turns the table just at the moment when everything seems to go down the drain. He brings staying power into the team.

There are 2 ways of playing a chanter. There is the bard chanter, focusing on chants (usually high level ones, while auto attacking at the same time) and the summoning chanter (when you only use lv 1 chants to gather invocation points as fast as possible).

At lower lvs, fights are too quick, so a summoner might not be that efficient, but at higher levels (lv 9+), depending on the difficulty, fights are long enough to cast invocations if you stick to lv 1 chants. I remember on PoTD in cragholdt quest, my chanter could easily cast 2-3 invocations per encounter.
Yeah, looks like im switching out Sagani and sticking with Kana and Hiravias.

You'll miss out on Stormcaller arguably the best weapon in game then.

Really they all have their uses. One thing PoE does very well is class-balancing. Why don't you use all 3 and see which works for you the best?

Sagani isn't same roles than two others, she can be a solid front and no way Kana or Hivarias can do that well, druid morph is too short duration. She can be a single target damage dealer (with pet) that can't be the two others. And yeah Kana and Hivarias have their plus too that I won't list. Sagani (Ranger) is more in competition with Rogue and Monk.
Well, you've got three classes there in chanter, druid and ranger that serve different roles. I won't repeat what the others have said again in terms of what they do, but will add that you've got to pick what you need. What role do you currently have need of?
Sagani is the weakest of the three in my experience. Her pet seemed to die too easily in my experience and her dps was eh. Combine that with a lack of general utility... I sent her to hold. I do miss her voice in the party though.

Kana I loved for his summons in the lower level range but currently love him for his AoE Paralyze. OMFG is AoE Paralyze potent. Beyond that, his buffs and debuffs are decent and he makes for a solid off tank when my healer or wizard are getting beat on.

Hiravias has so much utility whether it be slowing an incoming pack of mobs so I can throw an oil slick on them, or aoe dd, or aoe dot, or debuff, or heal, or buff..... Seriously, this guy is a power house. Using him in conjunction with Aloth, forget about it. Wonder twin powers activated.

Since adding Hiravis to my group, I now need to camp or hit an inn because my characters are fatigued and not because they are out of spells/abilities. And this becomes even more so the case at lvl9 when lvl1 spells are per combat instead of per rest.

After only a few fights with Hiravias I created a druid and was seriously considering packing up my rogue and restarting from scratch. Love the druid!

I play on hard which is a bit easier than I expected. I am all about the journey and as such I do all the quests I come acrosss. Maybe thats why the game feels easier to me. I do do alot, hopefully all, of the side quests before moving on in the main story.

Sagani is the highest DPS of my group. Give her a decent weapon and build her correctly for synergizing with her pet and she'll decimate anyone in seconds.

Yeah I have found that Sagani and her Pet scale exceptionally well. She is overtaking Aloth for most killing blows and third in damage dealt. I am not sure if her pet accouts for some of those killing blows are not but I see many 'Itumaak has killed xxxx" in my combat logs. I wasn't impressed with her pet at first but as they leveled up her pet is not dying nearly as often now. I use her pet as a screen to ensure no enemy breaks free and runs to the caster line.

If you're playing on normal the only mandatory characters are Eder to tank and Aloth to debuff/gaze... Other than that you can literally just give everyone else some form of crossbow/gun and roll through the game.

So just pick whatever character you like and have fun.

Since 2.0, rangers are way better, they're not the underpowered class anymore. So sagani 2.0 isn't the same underpowered NPC from the release, she actually does her job now.
