Iron flail (spoiler)
Is there any advantage in not killing the commander? I was wondering as I prefer to take the peaceful path but it looks like you just lose a lot of extra's

He can help you later against the ''Giants'' forgot their name.
And also during the battle for Caed Nua.

Although, it might trigger something negative in the end-game story.
Not exactly sure what sets those negative effects in motion and if avoidable though.
I'm pleased I didn't kill him...

and why are you pleased?

I allready finished the battle so not really of use there (battle was actually easy)...
I can't say. It's a game. And discovery is everything. No spoiler...
My job is to make you regret you killed him.
Now, you won't know, ever...

There's nothing in particular to be pleased about. Sure, he can help you with defending Caed Nua (ridiculously easy battle even without him) and will give you siege weapons for the final battle in WM II, but he'll also give a bad end game slide about his impoverished countrymen gathering at the border, trying to get a slice of that juicy White Forge pie.

'talking about spoiler...
You told the whole story, before the OP finished the game even, but you didn't even mention what's specially interesting when you meet that commander.
Congrats...

Sorry for the bump, but I am curious if that's the only outcome?
Is there no way to keep him alive and not get a bad ending slide?

It seems that that ending was a result of the Abydon choice and not the Commander. So sparing him is fine, I think.
