What companions to choose
right now I have recruited Aloth, eder, Durance, Kana, Sagani, Hiravias, and the Grieving mother, and I will soon have Pellagina. Beyond trying to complete their quests for the xp, is there any companions that should or should not remain in the party? I am running a Rogue with a Shield as my main.

For storyline purpose I would keep Aloth at all time.
Eder is also probably the best tank available among the companions, so I would also keep him.
I couldn't survive without Aloth.
And the funniest one is yet to come...
('might be a DLCs one?)

Honestly, I was wondering the same. So far, I have Eder, Aloth, Durance, Kana and Grieving Mother, myself Paladin.

Eder can be really great tank, if build properly, and he's great companion overall. Grieving Mother feels REALLY important to the story and lore (not sure how much) and enigmatics are great anyway. Aloth is suprisingly strong mage and really interesting character. Kana is meh, but kinda fun companion (his songs are useful too). Durance is great if you want to know story and culture of Dyrwood, and cleric/priest is MUST HAVE.

Can't say anything about Sagani, Hiravias, Pallegina or DLC companions.

Bring the ones you like the best and feel the most connection to. It makes the game more fun. Aloth, Durance and Grieving Mother may very well have the most 'connection' to the central storyline.

from a story/lore perspective:
Edér, Durance, Aloth and TGM they all have connections to the plot somehow and/or have interesting remarks about the world and lore.

from a power perspective:
Sagani is the strongest, Pallegrina is probably the weakest (though very much playable even on potd). Devil of Caroc has really weird stats but she's a rouge so she can always shoot bad guys.

I always liked Edér and Aloth the most for some reason. Calisca feels like she could have been an interesting character as well, but... than THAT happened :)

It all depends on the perks you took when you leveled them. There are combinations of perks that work between charactors that when used in the correct order by the right toon that do considerable damage very quickly.

I'm constantly switching them in and out depending on what I'm doing.
I kept only the more colorful ones, also the funniest.
That goes together.
My lastest go-to party has been

PC Wizard
Eder
Durance
Sagani
Grieving Mother
Maneha

Fun party banter and effective as a fighting force. Won all of the big fights with this group.

You guys are making me think of switching Aloth back in.

I'm about mid-way through Act 2 and dumped him the moment I came upon Hiravias, my first "You have one too many party members" character.

Frankly, I've found Aloth to be an utter bore up to this point. I guess that changes down the line? Should I pull him back into the party?

Hiravias seems like a riot thus far, but man is he squishy as hell.

Maneha is broken in 3.01 in several ways. 3.02 will hopefully fix that. Her banter is looping. "Ondra's Tides. Durance, you crack me up", is what she begins with again when entering almost every area. Her personal quest is forgotten some time later when talking to her again. And unless I've skilled her very poorly, Zahua is the much better melee fighter and did much more damage than her in less time even.

That hasn't been my experience. In fact, I don't think she's ever said that at all. She's talked with Sagani about her hunt, had a back and forth with Zahua, even sparred with Durance. As for "who is better", I'm not interested in min-maxing. If I were I would make custom characters.

I have a similar dilema.

Right now I have:

PC rogue, Eder (tank), Kana (off tank), Aloth, Durance.

I planned to take Sagani in my party, but I heard Grieving mother was more important in the story.

My criterias are to have:

- Character playing very differently
- Good synergy between them
- Characters with big impact on the story, and more banters dialogues.
- The less humans possible in the team

As an exemple I wanted Hiravias in myt eam, but from what I red, he plays like a wizard with more DPS oriented spells.
So He's feelr edondant with Aloth in my party, and my rogue really needs Aloth for his affecting status spells, so that he can land sneak attacks.
So good by Hiravias I guess.

My other problem is that I don't really liek to have so many humans in a fantasy game where you are supposed to see strange races.
I alwready have Eder and Durance, so i'd prefer a female dwarf over Grieving mother...but maybe not if here story and dialogues are way better and more important for the story.

Ranger is one of my favorite class to...But I have no idea how original and fun is going to be cypher class.
I might choose it over the ranger class I've alwready played in countless RPG.
Same thing happened for Kana, I did not plan to play him, but his song and summon mechanics seemed so unique, I decided to keep him as secondary front character, unless he will end up being to weak for that.

Please no Spoilers on the character's stories and their locations, I want to find them myself.
I only know they exist, but I haven't spoiled myself with anything else.
I have only found Eder Aloth, Durance and Kana.

Thx for any help, and sorry for the long post.

One cannot min-max NPC companions. You can retrain them, but not changed their attributes. Whatever talents I've chosen for Maneha, Zahua simply does much more damage. Maybe I'm still bad at Barbarians.

The bugs about Maneha are in the tech support forum. It may be that not everyone is affected. As always.
