Missing Sign of Rising Tide-Please Help (Spoilers)

For some reason I was not able to talk past the monks in the Abbey of the Fallen Moon, causing me to fight them. I then had to procede fighting everyone and ended up killing the abbot Kaota. I now am at the part where I did the puzzle to raise the water level but now since I didn't do that ritual I can't progress. I am screwed save game wise since my auto saves/quick saves were all used for those rough fights and I would like to know if I should just forget about this expansion or if there is a fix.

On a side note, I do find it pretty aweful if there is no alternate way to progress the main story when they make it sound like you may have to fight the monks/sneak in anyways and can't just waltz in.

You can read a note about the ritual and/or talk to someone else, as far as I remember. (there is one person who is not hostile)

For future reference of anyone reading this thread: If you happen to kill the Abbot interact with his spirit using your watcher skills, find his journal in the study behind that chamber then you can interact with the pictures on the wall, flood the chamber and walk on water to obtain the lever to open the gate or wash away the low tide people. I solved the pictures then had to go back and do the rest before the chamber would flood.

outside the abby there is a way you can directly enter the halls of silence. Near the bottom right of the map, near the giant hand, there is an option to use the grappling hook to swing across. You or one of your party members requires you pass a 18 DEX check to hook it far enough.
