A return to court bug?

So I killed the messenger that was waiting in my court instead of talking to him. No new messenger has arrived and the quest log still says to talk to him. Did I just lock myself out of this quest?

Done a few quests now and still no new messenger. Im going to assume that I can no longer do the quest.

That seems like a large oversight. Why would they allow you to kill any npc, but not have the quests update when you do?

Yea im a bit bummed. I oly killed the messenger specifically because earlier in the quest one of the dialogue options was "Tell them I'll kill any of his men sent to my keep" or something like that. I like to roleplay a bit so when his messenger showed up I killed him. Didn't think it'd lock me out of the quest completely.

I have a bad feeling that blocking that quest will in turn block future quests; at least 1 off the top of my head. I hope you save often; ideally, w/ a master save every time you reach a new level. It might be worth it to get back to an earlier point in time.

The messenger you killed was from Chancellor Warrin, the person you warned not to enter your lands was Lord Gathbin so I guess the devs did not expect you to murder a representative from the ducal palace.

If the game would react in a realistic manner to you deed your position as lord of caed nua would be revoked by the ducal palace and ducal guards would come to arrest you I guess so maybe it is for the best that the devs didn't take that possibility into consideration.

Nah, just take his body and dump it on the road somewhere that has recently suffered with bandit attacks and blame it on them :)

so I know this thread is old and all that... But hey. A great game never dies. So with that being said. Does anybody have any idea what happens if you show up to court and just kill everyone? Ya know... Before "LORD" Gathbin shows up? So essentially you just walk in.. slay everyone, and never do the preceeding that decides that the stronghold is yours etc. I am GUESSING they just attack to take the place from you... later.. as usual? But I have head of other "over sights" so could this be another one? I tried it, and killed them all, rather easily, but I was worried I might have broke something and didn't want to waste my time etc. So I reloaded the old save. Aka "reverted time" with my "time control powers" lol

You can kill every NPC in this game and still complete the game. However many quests will be unavailable. Pretty sure you just lose that quest if you do that.
