Do I need the DLC to have a full first play through experience?
Or is the DLC just an extra part on the end?

The game is worth getting with the expansions. plus with the level cap raise. new gear that helps. I haven't done every quest in the first city, and there is a second city to go to at the start of act 3. So the game is big, and the expansions add even more.

You can play WM in any monent of your PoE run, it is not placed at/after the end of the base game.
If you don't like to play it in the first run you can do and keep a save game prior of the non-return point and then reload it when ready to play WM too.

No, but why not just play em? You have to do the first main quest in chapter 2 (defiance bay catacombs) and after talk to the statue in your stronghold.

Never played this game before, wondering if to buy the game with or without all the DLC.
If the DLC is just late/mid game add-on stuff, then I won't bother as I might dislike the game but if it adds content that i'll be using from the start, then i'll give it a go. Which one is it?

You learn about the expansion at around level 4-5 at the end of the Temple of Woedica quest in Defiance Bay (Act 2), but depending on difficulty mode, it makes more sense to wait for level 6-8 before travelling to the first expansion village Stalwart. It will be possible to travel forth and back, btw.

I do think the expansions add a lot more content. and the base game would feel more empty without them. Plus the gear is nice, some are easy to get, others take time.

I would suggest been level 7 + to do WM1, and don't leave it too late. While you can do it later, and the difficulty can be upscaled,(which is a choice you can enable, or leave it at base values) I read that this might make some stuff really hard. (especailly for a new player)

Once I done WM1, I might do two, or do some quests else where and come back? but I still got a lot of content in the base game to do. So will be a while before I get to chapter 3.

So anyway, get the game with both expansions, and you won't regret it.

I agree with Matthew. I finished PoE and then got the expansions. I've decided to start over with WM1 - it's a fun game and I've got plenty of time to play!! (Retired) It's my understanding that WM2 stands alone so at least get WM1 for now and enjoy!!

Question: Apparently the combat is this doesn't have AI and you have to do every little thing.
Apparently PoE 2 fixed this, is there a patch for PoE 1? Apparently it has better story.

BTW, if you look under Guides, there is one by Scottii that is Awesome! It helped me alot. - just don't try the cheats. They may have worked before but they don't work now and they will prevent you from getting achievements.

Supposedly the DLCs and the updates that came made the even now somewhat tedious aspects of PoE less tedious and the world more rich.

But Im not sure if you get the good stuff in the early parts without owning the DLCs.

Game's pretty cheap but I remember when I was a kid and every penny meant something.
It's also kinda messed up that a game as old as this isnt at some permanent discount when they actually gave it away for free some months ago for a promotion in Epic-Store.

Artificial scarcity through digitization should be regulated if piracy is to remain illegal. But that's an other topic.

This is not correct.
There is combat ai(you might have to turn it on manually, can't remember).

Phew! Glad to hear that, thanks!

There are combat AI options, there is a global on / off button above your ability bar, and you can switch the AI on and off for individual characters.
And there is AI behavior customization via the gear symbol on each character record screen. A few basic rules only, though, compared with Deadfire.
