1) I have over 10 points in Mechanics. I *had* all 4 parts and already gave them to Dunstan.
2) For a ''corner case'', it's pretty damn talked about
3) ... ... ...Sigh. Seriously ? ''Check your inventory'' ? That's almost insulting. Yes, I checked every ''digital square centimetres'' of my inventory and stash.
On point 1), I had given Dunstan the piece after having dealt with the rogue Forge Knights. Like, right when was in the building.
EDIT: ... ... ...research. Research. And more research. What we find with even more searching around.
While I was searching for the name of the quest, with the rogue Forge Knights (Winds of Steel), I found a paragraph of information. One single block of text that provides an explanation, while not providing a solution:

« Note: If The Blade of The Endless Paths quest is not yet complete, DO NOT talk to Dunstan for the Blade of The Endless Paths at this point. You must exit the keep, then re-enter in order for the quest to complete properly. If you give him the blade parts while he is in the war room, the quest will bug and you will never receive the completed blade. »

Still looking for a solution. But, at least, I know the source of the problem more exactly now.

Getting this blade is a real pain in the @$$ but still, if we make the wrong decision at the wrong time, then the blade becomes a bittersweet memory.
I mean, just look at all the Bethesda games and the hordes of fan-patches and bugfixes people make. Sad that they are a necessity, but whatever.
But even if they acknowledged the bug and promised a fix and mentioned the fix in the patch notes (have they done that?), it can happen that a fix isn't 100%, because a problem is not easily reproducible at their end.
Reading a few older topics from 2015 about it, it seems to be important that Dunstan is at his forge when talking to him. I haven't ever been able to run into that bug, because most of the time he is near his forge, and I don't try to repair the blade after the attack of the forge knights.

And?
The latter is the one where you have dropped the same post as in this topic, but which is missing a developer reply.
The former is from 2015 about the v1 series of the game and with a developer asking at least two times for a savegame file. Last in Nov 2015, and only on March 15th 2017 somebody dug up that old topic to add a savegame file. At that point, the devs were busy with PoE 2 already, and PoE was at v3.05 and only received two minor patches later.
