newbie question: what does AOE stand for?
I hear it mentioned all the time. Don't know what it means. Thanks.

Area of Effect, means it will affect everyone in an area. There are different circles for it, yellow means it will only affect enemies, red means it will affect everyone. Green means it will only affect allies
ah. thank you.

Just as an FYI there are two types of AoE spells, one where you should pay attention to the two circles and one where you don't have to care about whether you allies are within either the inner or outer circle.

AoE - As JuLLe mentioned, affects friend and foe in the darker, inner circle, and only foe in the outer circle. Don't cast these if any of your team are in the dark, inner circle. They could receive damage.

--ex. Chill Fog and Fireball - These are Wizard AoE spells that have a chance to damage any character within the inner circle and any foe within the outer circle. Be careful where you cast them.

Foe AoE - These are my favorite AoE spells, because they only affect FOEs and NOT allies. As long as any red foe is within either the inner circle or the outer circle, they have a chance of receiving damage or a damage over time DOT, and/or additional deleterious effects depending on the spell.

--ex. Arcane Assault and Ghost Blades - I cast Arcane assault when there are a group of melee foes surrounding my front line damage dealers (Fighter, Monk, Bear, Paladin), and I cast it right in the middle of the group. Since it's a Foe AoE, the spell only affects the enemy with the red circles around them. I do the same with Ghost Blades, though I run my Wizard up just behind a large group of baddies attacking my front line, and I cast this spell right through my team. It does no damage to them, because they are my team members and are not Foes. Good luck!
