Burning house choice in Stalwart
The left choice requires an ise spell, but all my spells were used in the fight and I didn't have my chanter. Is there anything I can do to get an ice spell without failing the event?

This is a case of "looking more urgent than it is". You don't need to solve the burning house immediately, you are free to rest, leave, reassign your roster and whateever before tackling the burning house.

Are you sure? IIRC it burns down if you leave the map. But I might be wrong.

To the OP:
I've never done it myself but AFAIK you can do it with Scâth Gwannek shield if you happen to have it.

If you don't have Kana, spells or the shield you can always load the autosave and replay the ogre battle saving one spell for later. That encounter is not really difficult.

P.S. If I'm not mistaken if you want to save both villagers AND steal the ring from the barmaid's hand you should send either your main character or Aloth. Kana or Hiravias won't be able to get the ring even if they can save the villagers.

Yes, I'm sure, I just did it like that!

As long as you haven't talked to the bystanders to start the task, you can do whatever you like.

Might be conditions that fail it alltogether, like reactivating the forge (thus starting WM Act 2), I haven't experimented...

I just needed to return to Caed Nua to get a specific rest bonus, swap around some gear, and Aloth handled the task like a charm.

Spoilers from the wiki:
Survival 5 or Con 14 to either duck beneath the smoke or just shrug it off.
Perception 14 to notice a burning beam, Might 13 to push it out of the way, or Dexterity 10 to get past it. If the Perception check fail a Dexterity 18 or a Might 10 takes its place.
Go left first: An Ice spell to rescue the man.
Go right: Resolve 13 to snag her ring.
A Prybar or Might 20 to remove the log.
Athletics 4 AND Consitution 12 to get her out alive.

I barely survived that battle... yes, I went there asap(for party members) and am not the tactician I was back when I played Baldur's Gate. There's people who are the isometric RPG version of fighting game experts that know exactly what spells work best together, which ones are useless, and can do the math comparing all abilities. Even at my best, I couldn't do all that.

And, yes, it does end if you rest or leave the map, sadly. Tried it first. I went to the forest to the right of the village, rested and returned. And I never spoke to anyone at that point. It's the very reason I even made this post. If I could rest and return, I'd be golden. But I'll try resting at the fortress instead. Maybe it has something to do with resting on a white march area?

Update: Yup, that was it. Resting off of the White March map is ignored!

The house keeps burning provided that you ignore it and don't trigger the scripted interaction before returning.

Other than getting the ring, Is there any reason to enter the house? I was wondering if something comes up later or in White March 2

Thanks!

Necroing this (sorry). I tried to have Aloth run in and save them. He passes all the stat checks, but I somehow don't have the requirements for the ice spells even though he knows Chill Fog (he's learned the spell AND it's in his EQUIPPED grimoire). :( I tried this as well with Hiravias with the same issue.

Is this a bug?

That would be unusual, and I'm not aware of any common issue if using Hiravias. Do your characters have Survival 5 skill?

Yeah, Aloth has survival 6. :/ I might try going back and picking up Hiravias and see if I'll have better luck with him.

i'm not using any kind of mods if that makes any difference.

Ah, I think I figured it out. I had no uses for lv1 spells left after fighting everything

Edit: yup that was the issue... >_>
