Reaching max level
I was wondering: Will I run out of room for XP gain well before running out of quests to do? I'm still in chapter 2 and I've already hit level 9. I do most quests that come my way, as long as they don't clash with my paladin's code.

Yes, fairly easily if you pursue most sidquests.

The standard level cap is 12, but the White March DLCs extend that to 16 (and include enough quests to reach it).

If you find yourself at an exceptionally high level when entering either Act III or the White March, the game gives you the option to scale the content to match your high level.

I got that option to decide "High Level" or "Standard". I wanted to maintain the existing scale level, but I did not know which one to select--there is no going back after a decision is made. I chose "Standard", hoping that it would not make the game any more difficult, especially when I still have not beaten the adra dragon. BUT, the game seems to be more difficult to deal with the enemies. Have I chosen wrong?

No, you chose correctly given your intentions. Standard is the lower-level option. If the enemies appear to be getting more difficult, it's because you're running into more difficult enemies (that tends to happen as you progress in games) and you need to adjust your tactics a little, or maybe level up a little more.

Did you make this selection when entering the White March or when entering Act III, out of curiosity? Because I personally did find the White March content a little tougher than the base game content, even without scaling. Lagufaeth are deadly as hell.
