And while the writing is great, the dlc are mostly combat and more combat for the sake of combat. I'd say the main game being about 60/40 comvst/story and dialogue, the dlc is more like 80/20 combat /story and dialogue.
I personally found combat in the game to be mostly a chore and not the funnest aspect of the game, so the dlc to me I'd rate like 4/10 for my personal preferences. However based solely on amount of content and how well it is made, I'd rate dlc like 8/10.
I recommend playing the base game and you will have more than enough fun. The DLCS are very combat heavy, and more of the same. I always found my self just wanting to go and kill Thoas by the time I am halfway through the DLCs. That's my advice.
I know they're supposed to a well known group but with that kind of power they could have taken over the whole area if they wanted to, kind shattered my illusion of becoming a badass group.
Overall it's good DLC though, I like snowy areas.
I completed the base game 2 times in 88 hours and on second run i did all available quests.. i guess i want to see everything there is to see and not rush through the content
In my opinion the DLC is better than the main game. The writing (story + companions) is better. I really like some of the new companions. The gameplay is also improved. There is much more interesting loot in the DLC and the combat encounters are a good deal harder as well.
Somewhere between 20 and 40 hours dependent on your playstyle.
