Let's get this straight. You've broken into Reymont Manor to steal the gem, then you wanted to return the stolen gem to Lord Reymont within the same house? Why?
If you want to work with Lord Reymont, a shady noble man, don't steal the gem, but inform him about the letter and turn against the Doemenels instead.
Or did you mean to say that you fought the Doemenels? They are a worthwhile ally, particularly for a cruel/aggressive/deceptive watcher. Bricanta Doemenel is related to some extra quests and offers a shop with some good items, too.
Oops, my bad. I meant Doemenel Manor. I decided that I won't be changing my action, they are not my cup of tea. I love thievery, but I am not letting them control me like a pawn. A pawn is at least what I'd feel in their faction.
