I like some of them but since there is not pickpocketing the only way to take their notes is killing them, there is not another way?

You can make a deal with one of them to kill the other three and then they will give you their note, but you do have to kill at least three and then read all four notes to get access to Concelhaut's chambers.

BTW, the walkthroughs all say, "oh noez, one of the toughest battles in the game!" but it is a lot easier if you simply retreat back out the door after the conversation and kill everything as they come to you. Watch the big guy's spells though. And make sure to get his spellbook when you are done. Your mages will thank you for it.
