The game is separated into acts, and after one ends, I believe you cannot recruit the companion (most of them, anyway) anymore.
There is enough XP to level them all.
So yeah, you can get all companions and max their levels without trouble even if you prefer to stick with particular party setup.
There is not enough XP to level up all removed companions. The will be waiting at the stronghold (and every inn), but receive reduced XP compared with your party, and only one companion at a time can be sent on a stronghold adventure to gain some extra XP. Effectively, those not within the party will get less XP than you - you would need to exchange them regularly, and if you wanted to do that with all NPC companions, that would create a lot of overhead.
Sadly .. you ll miss absolutly nothing. Companions are autisticly designed. Do you remember those boring books in shelfs all around game? Well that what exaclty companions are. They are just another book.
Companios give you zero add to the gameplay. ZERO. They just another pile of text for the story. Nothing else.
yes, any time
Man.. this game is horibly designed, you will reach top level in no time... :((( That includes ALL your companions. Dont worry.
so i can ease my game insted of rushing to get them all? (as i play on "Path of the Damned" diff and its a bit overhelming...)
I heavily advise you to at least take Durance (the third companion) and Edér (the first one) into your party.
I recommend to take Eder, Durance, because they very enrich the storytelling.
Then Sagani and Aloth, coz they are funny.
Mother got sometimes interesting coments.
Khana is boring autist.
Palegina is woman eqivalent to Eder, but without storytelling.
Hiravias is very boring and uninteresting.
Again, not true. As stated already in this thread, you will miss the companion quests; which are, in fact, something.
There's a couple of people that don't or even (heavily) dislike him.
But it's the most detailled and rich character, love him or hate him. Chris Avellone wrote him and it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shows. His story is long and interesting.
Orly? .... *sigh*
No, you will not miss those quest. They basicly like... run there, run there... read some text. Quest done. Hilarious.
No, you will miss nothing. Those quests got literaly zero effect on gameplay.
I didn't say whether or not they are good quests, but you will miss them. That's a fact. Something I know you're not too familiar with.
