Far From Home quest not worth it?

The quest where you have to pay 1,000 to see Serel and then 6,000 to get the medallion (maybe there's some stat check i couldn't pass instead of paying?) just doesn't seem like it's worth doing. It costs 5,000 after you get the quest reward of 2,000 back to get some "ok" magical items. Did anyone else besides me skip this quest? Am I missing out on something besides the magical items by not doing this?

You can absolutely get both the medallion and ring without paying 7000 (discount of 50% to the Salty Mast if you complete the thug side quest, so only 500cp, and you can pay only 4000 if you have high enough INT. Or you can simply get the medallion with high enough MIG by threatening her, or persuade her with RES). They are really good magical items. +2 Might is only beaten by a +3 belt. Same for the +2 RES ring. Items with + RES are incredibly rare and this ring is only beaten by a magic leather armor which gives +3.

p.s. You can also murder Thristwn to get his cloak, but it's not particularly good.
