Wow the save bug is still ingame
stopped playing this game ages ago because my saves would disappear. I tried so many solutions to fix this problem and they did not work. Come back to this game and this bug is still around, guess its a perma bug that will never be fixed. Sure make me second guess buying PoE2

Yup. Also some new ones you probably never experianced before :D

I'm getting freindly fire with foe-only AoEs, and the second half of the expansion pack broke Blast, a basic Wizard talent.

edit: Meaning White March 2. Not the second half as in I'm half way through and it broke the ability. I mean installing WM2 causes everyone's Blast to do nothing, even a brand new character.

Cloud or local saves?

There is the official tech support forum. There has been at least one topic about it, but as far as I remember, the person who had reported the problem, has not worked together with the developer and has not answered the developer's questions.

There are also various theories about computer security related software blocking the game from using the Temp folder, permission issues, quarantine false positives, and more.

Btw, I've never lost any local saves with this game since release 1.0.

Odd. Blast and Penetrating Blast are quite popular and have worked the last time I've had Aloth learn them.

Yeah, I bet they are popular. As so many have told me, auto-attacking is unavoidable in this game. Which is why, especially early game, this quite problematic. The issue is 100% reproduceable for me. If I uninstall WM2, it works. If I reinstall it, it breaks. 100% of the time. I'm going to redownload and install everything. See if that works, but I doubt it. Still, it's a basic troubleshooting measure.

I posted a saved game file on the Obsidian Tech board for PoE. If you could test it out to just rule out...something, I don't know...I'd aprecaite it.

Do you have cloud saving on? If so turn that off, for all games. Steam still has a bug with cloud saving deleting or corrupting saves. I had the same problem with PoE and a few others, and when I turned off cloud saving I haven't seen the problem since then.

So if you have cloud saving on, then most likely it is a steam issue and not a game issue that the developers can fix.

yup cloud has been off for this game i'm guessing a year or more, like i said i have tried many fixes none have worked
However thank you for helping find a solution

I never lost anything, but I save often so if I lost a few I surely didn't notice. So the fix is plain simple, save often, on different saves, problem solved.

if you ever had the bug any save can and will disappear i had 3 manual saves i went to save over the the one and all disappeared. I save very often mostly when i'm about to chat to someone
@macetotheface : Note that no local save files disappear. You can find them in your user's \Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity\ folder. What happens is that for some people the game doesn't show all saves when it is started. There are a few reports where the game does not show any saved game at all despite them being available in the folder when you check that with windows explorer.

Try never override, delete and save instead, I vaguely remind something about that. And yeah I have more 100 saves, and need clean the folder regularly.

POE 2 still same problem

I doubt it can be fixed within the game, if external security solutions software interferes with the game while it tries to access the .savegame files - afterall, they are still .ZIP archives renamed to use a .savegame extension. Look for ways how to whitelist the game, or disable security software that causes false positives.

There is usually somethng that blocks game when saves dissappears like that could be based on the OS like priviliges or needs to be "run as Administrator"

Win 8.1 can do that if you do not run games that uses temp saves and might be related.

For me so far atleast I have not lost a local save... but quite many when I used Steam cloud so I stop doing that all togther.

other then those two things hmm Not sure if they might have created new placement for the savefiles after Winter March was launch but I doubt it unless it was incompatebel.
If the file path was set to a diffirent one ingame then the game can not see the old saves on the old path.

Same goes for POE2 I have not lost a single local save file ... *knocks on wood*

:EDIT:
Oh it could be anti-virus too but I do not recall have any problems when it comes to mine but I usually create an exception for each game in the steamfolder just to be certain.

What fixed it for me was navigating to C:/Users/username/Saved Games/Pillars of Eternity/ and deleting old saves. I had about 30 old saves and cut the list down to about 5. The issue could be related to having too many saves which may be overwhelming the program.

Nah. It is entirely related to external security software blacklisting the game or access of the Temp folder or blocking access to individual .savegame files as mentioned in post #2.

Thank god I found the cure:
Run as an administrator. (sorry for my english)
