Terrible Controller Support
I refuse to play fighting games designed for a controller with a keyboard, it's awkward, and I'm pretty sure this game was designed with controller support intended. Right now, it's god awful, worst input lag I've ever felt in a long time. Dodges aren't consistent, meaning I press LT and I don't dodge every time, and I know there is a cool down, but I'm talking about at least 6 seconds passing before I can dodge again. The inputs are broken, I can be holding left or right and I will go down instead, What sense does that make? or I'll be holding a direction and dodge, and I'll dodge in one area. I play this for ranked, and this cripples me. It's not my controller, it's not my PC, every other game works fine. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Are you sure you're not experiencing lag? I use a controller and I have no problem with it, altough input delay is due to lag.

If it was lag, wouldn't it balance out because of the new patch? I mean, I fought a gold 2 and he was really good, being able to chain attacks immediately with no cool down, why can't I do that? I'm pressing the buttons correctly.

If you use windows start your cmd.exe and then type: ping brawlhalla.com
Then press enter and see what your ping is. If it is above 150, then you are too far away from the servers or your connection isnt good.

35ms.

I'm not a fan of the stigma around "Oh my button's wont go off!!!!" However, I don't know what it is, but I can't do hammer stomp combos properly because if I press jump too fast after stomping someone, the jump command won't go off. Thus I have to always wait around 0.2-0.3 seconds before doing it

One ping isn't enough to determine the strength of your connection. It hides packet loss and jitter. We're trying to find a good tool that will estimate your connection strength.

As for the original post. Does the same thing happen offline? Is the game not holding 60fps? Does the same thing happen for you on keyboard?

Answers to the above questions will help up figure out what is actually going on for you.

Sure, but it is a good indication. Often people are just too far away from the servers.

Actually, there may in fact be an issue with the polling frequency of the controllers state. Will report back with findings.

Does this have anything to do with where I have to wait a very very small amount of time before jumping after doing a stomp / slide kick / neutral, If I press jump right after doing the action it won't go off, thus I'm losing slight frames which puts me in a position where I can't combo properly sometimes. Does the system have some sort of queuing or what not? I use a PS3 controller if that helps.

I can confirm two things, It does happen offline, and the game is running at 60FPS all the time.

I've never tried using a keyboard to play any fighting game, so I cannot answer the third question.

While we are on this topic I would like to bring up something I noticed.

I recently purchased an X-Box 360 wired controller, previously I have played strictly on the keyboard. The one thing I noticed is that using a controller feels much faster. I'm not sure why, but the inputs feel much more responsive on the controller than the keyboard. Is this just me, or is there a reason for this?

That's the exact opposite of this thread.

Edit: I just played a 1v1 Ranked match, people seem to be telporting again, showing that they got hit, but according to the server they've dodged behind me, It's disorienting and makes the game less about skill and more about luck.

I understand that you are experiencing the opposite of what I'm describing. But while we were on the topic of controller input vs keyboard input I thought I would share my own experiences, as different from yours as it may be.

We are increasing the polling frequency for the next patch. It should do a better job of making sure inputs don't get missed. If you still notice the problem, let us know because then what you are describing might be something else.

Maybe just you? It can depend on your keyboard. The "thicker" the keys are, the more time it takes for the input to go off just because you have to press the keyboard down further. I can notice a difference between my laptop and work machine.

Fundamentally, there should be no difference between the two though.
