I feel you. I didn't buy SSB Wii U because the roster is godawful this time around. This game though has a cutesy style that might turn some people off, but I think it works in it's favor. The game itself is simplistic, easy to pick up but realyl fun to play. I'd reccomend it, seeming on how one day after I applied for the beta they sent me a key xD
As for the topic: The Party Brawler genre was pioneered by Smash, so it's a bit unfair to call this a ripoff. The Smash series started it all, and the genre really wasn't developed until recently(Playstation All-Stars) because people were afraid to compete(though there were a few attempts). I look forward to more experiments with the genre.
