Why are cosmetics so expensive? Nobody buys them.
Like, seriously... $6 for a single skin? $6 is just too much for a casual purchase, and even if the skin you want is on sale, or you want to buy a crate once, you still have to buy at least $6 worth of Fun Bux. And the buy-more-get-more scheme isn't going to help get money out of the people who only want to make small purchases.
Call me a whiny entitled communist who wants everything for free if you feel like defending a brand, but I've seen MAYBE one person with cosmetics a month, and I used to play this game daily.
And I know someone's gotta pay the licensing fees, but taking into account the buy-more-get-more scheme going on, crossover skins are like... Just over $9 at best, just over $12 at worst. My math might be bad, but they're 300MC, and 1MC varies from 3.1 to 4.3 cents.
People don't like $6. $5 is the point where a purchase becomes "big" to me, and I assume to a lot of other people, too.
These are digital goods, copies are made at no cost. These prices are ridiculous. Being very generous, I've seen maybe 7 people with any cosmetics at all that aren't free.

For a F2P game, it's normal monetization. Get over it.

I'm not complaining about the fact it has microtransactions. I wasn't born yesterday, I know how free-to-play works. I'm asking why the prices are so high if nobody buys them.

Also, I retract my earlier statement. If you're just here to tell me to stop complaining, don't, because it contributes nothing. I just wanna know how this game makes money with prices so high nobody seems to be actually BUYING anything.

You keep going on with this claim, yet the actual people playing says otherwise. I've seen a lot of them. Even something small like an avatar or an emote is a purchase. And the battle pass is just making it a lot bigger. If you see someone spamming Volkov's side sig it's because they have the BP, no exceptions.

Honestly, your whole "BUT NOBODY BUYS THEM!" seems just like an excuse to convince yourself that your rant has a leg to stand on instead of just admiting that you're salty because you want skins but mommy won't let you use her credit card.

Yet you're the one acting like a baby. I'm 21, I have my own money. I'm not buying skins because they're not worth $6 to me.

They probably bought a cosmetic and feel the need to justify their purchase to strangers on the internet.

"You keep going on..." I made two posts. Dramatic much? A'ight, before anyone else tries to willfully misinterpret: My claim is "I have not seen many people with cosmetics." If you have to get up into Gold before you see anyone with cosmetics, then the casual players aren't buying, because casual players aren't in Gold. I've been up to Silver 5, but no higher. The vast (vast, vast) majority of people I see have absolutely no cosmetics (yes, this means no avatars or emotes, nothing). This is my point. There are a lot of players who are not purchasing cosmetics compared to the number who are.

"nobody buys them" oh how beautifully naive

But people are buying skins, I’ve been playing for almost 6 years and I almost never see anyone without a skin. Also, buying skins is more about supporting the devs than wanting a specific appearance for your legend

But there is no point for a casual player to buy a skin. People in silver usually have played for less than 2 weeks so I don’t think they would be thinking about paying in this game.

if i had to guess: you dont see too many people with skins, because a big part of the playerbase are underage people that dont have their own income, and their parents dont want to spend money for virtual goods, as you said.
now those who do buy skins are doing so with their money, because they want to. if "no one bought them", then im sure the company wouldve lowered the prices to attract people. but im guessing business is going well as is... so really, whats the issue? you dont like how expensive skins are? dont buy them. no one's forcing you to.

You're correct. Almost nobody actually spends money on F2P. That's why you don't see a ton of cosmetics all the time. They're trying to get people with impulse control issues to buy every shiny thing in the shop that they see. Not pricing things with real money makes it more difficult to tell the actual value of the things you're buying, AND more difficult to tell how much you've spent total.

Cosmetic based monetization like this tries to exploit the aforementioned people's fear of missing out as well. This monetization model isn't as incredibly anti-consumer as some others *cough*GACHA*cough* but it still tries to bankrupt people who have mental illnesses.

Yeah, I get the whole whale-hunting thing, and yeah, it's really messed up, but I'd kind of expect them to at least try to target your average player a little more.

I think you already answered your own question. The reason you don't see a lot of cosmetics at the casual level of play is because it's the casual level of play. The casual player doesn't get too invested into the game and just fires it up for a quick play here and there. So of course, with that mentality, the average casual player won't be spending money on a game that they might delete tomorrow. If your driving point of getting invested into a game is buying something for it, then you might be appreciating the wrong things in games. (no assuming, just saying)

On another note, there is a lot of free things to have. Like the free item skins that are promoted on the main page (you usually have to follow their media page or something like that) or the viewership rewards (you watch brawlhalla streams, earn points and then claim codes for in-game things, ranging from colors and weapon skins to emotes, skins and even titles) that are also promoted on the same page. So f2p players can still earn things, although the latter part is a rather "recent" addition.

All in all, buying mammoth coins is a way to support the devs and is generally aimed at the more invested players, so if you don't wanna do it - don't, just enjoy the game. The absence of p2w isn't pressuring you into buying anything either and the game is free, so you can drop it at any time with zero regret.
