I get that this is a topic for people who enjoy the technical aspects of fighters but it's hard to have a discussion more complex than "no I like my games simple" if no-one else even knows what you're talking about
Tell me which terms you don't know and I'll try to define them for you
I'm not sure what you mean. Wave dashes aren't in FG they are in brawlers only unless I'm over looking one of the more obscure games. Also a wave dash doesn't require a dash input at least in the Smash series. In the Smash series it is a jump and then an immediate air dodge diagonally into the ground https://youtu.be/N_eZoX8nAdg. Unless it's in other FG that I'm not aware of and done in a different way there is no dash input for a wave dash.
Regardless I don't even think this game would improve with the addition of wave dashes so it doesn't really matter.
(I think it's worth mentioning that, from what I can see, this game is a lot faster than Smash is. Granted, I've been playing a Ganondorf with a 50/50 1v1 For Glory ratio, so I'm not sure how much of the "pro" game I'm seeing, there, but...)
So wavedash is a small glide type deal that you have only in smash melee and pm. I just posted a video in this chat actually and they can explain a lot more thoroughly then me lol.
With the gravity cancel you are kind of right. It is a mid air air dodge with no directional inputs, so that you stay in place. But immediately after if you input an attack (most players use sig moves but you can do any attack) and you will be able to perform that attack mid air.
Slide charging (I think that's what you meant by slide dashing) is definitely a little obscure. In this game if you are in the middle of a run and begin charging a sig you will slide along the ground a very short distance while charging (hence slide charging). It's only used right now near the ledge so that when you fall of the ledge you are still charging a sig.
Hope I made sense on all that lol.

Stole it from shamelessly from reddit when the question came up why wavedash is called wavedash.
A wavedash is a jump followed by a diagonal dodge into the ground, making you slide. So no, there is no dash input. This is used for spacing and speed, but also lets you input any move without having to stop running/moving. This is why they use this in melee.
A dashDance however, is repeatedly dashing back and forth. This is only used for spacing.
The next step in dashes would be the Cactaur-dash. This is dashing in one direction, canceling the running animation (which happens when a dash ends) by crouching, then dashing in the same direction. This has some different implications, but is mainly used to be able to downtilt a poke while spacing yourself and moving in one direction quickly.
(to prevent your character doing a dash-attack)
Brawlhalla has no 'You have to stop first before you can do a heavy'-mechanic, wavedash would be useless.
And, since brawlhalla has neither dash nor crouch, implimenting dashdances would make this game something completely different. I don't think that's the idea.
They didnt make Smash-PC, they made Brawlhalla.
Btw, if you want to play melee online, you can.
Sm4sh, yes. Melee, no.
Melee at pro level is insanely fast.
Melee and pm are so fun to watch. I feel that way about this game too but only when it is 2v2s. I feel like where melee is a very fast and can be hard to keep up with as a spectator in 2v2s brawlhalla is a little slower and in 2v2s it can be really fun to watch since there's more going on.
That's actually why I'm suggesting more tech. Brawlhalla 1v1s are kind of slow to watch and I'm thinking adding some sort of new movement option would speed it up.
I think Smash flash (or I think it's called crusade now) implements air dodges in a way that they can be cancelled into an aerial at any point (they are also MUCH longer dodge lengths though). This is another possibility that could be interesting in terms of movement option. Plus it's easy so there isn't too much of a skill cap raise here.
Wavedash has been around loooong before smash lol.
Flash has essentially Brawl/Sm4sh's airdodge, Crusade lets you choose between Brawl/Melee/Crusade airdodges (Crusade airdodge is like Brawlhalla's in that it moves you in a direction (except there isn't a neutral dodge/G-Cancels) and like Melee that it can be used to wavedash).
...Unless there's a new update.
Also +1 on adding something to spice up 1v1.
But wavedash is stuiped :U
