That's exactly my feelings for the characters
The character design is extremely important in a fighting game because you'll spend a lot of time with that single character.
Pls read before writing
PS : "which is not true at all, Read the lore." nice joke :S
I guess they wanted to have the same hitbox for every character, it's easier to animate / create the character that way and to sell some cosmetics.
No no not at all. It's not about the graphics or the sprites. It's the character design.
I recommended many fighting game friends about Brawlhalla and many of they told me : "the heros are boring"
We're used to play Street Fighter, KOF, MK, Guilty Gear, Blazblue, Smash etc...
Their charaters had so much more personnality and overall more appealing than any Brawlhalla character.
I know they're made by much bigger dev teams but i wish Brawlhalla would put some effort into it
I dunno, I don't get it. I'm a huge fighting game fan myself, especially with Street Fighter, to the extent I've seen every animated video, animated series, and even watched the live action series (can't wait for new season, not live action movies, they were horrible)... But nothing about this game bothers me. There is lore attached to every character, and I find them all unique in there own way, though sure, they share some basic similarities based on weapons, but that doesn't make it horrible imo. Perhaps you should go more in depth as to what is lacking in the design aspect. Is it lack of voices or something?
For example, Street Fighter got some really unique design. You can recognize the style pretty easily and the characters are pretty different from each others.
Let take Ruy for example: He's the serious, respectful, hard working guy with a white karate gi and you can tell those traits just by the way he looks and the way he moves.
Cammy for example : She's this slim blonde girl with assasin type moves etc...
In Brawlhalla's case, let's take Bodvar: he's a viking...and that's all you can tell by the way he looks.
He moves like the other legends coz they all have the same normal moves.
He even got the same body shape as Scarlet !
I know i might look like i'm being grumpy for no reason but i really think that character design is extremly important in a fighting game
PS: The problem is we can't change much about the characters silhouette because of the game design choices.
I would like them to avoid the stereotype type of characters.
For example if they gonna make a mage (and a magic staff as a weapon), i wish they wouldn't make him like this :

Ok, so it's more or less a case of where you want their personality or persona to be more apparent. Yah, that doesn't bug me so much, but I can understand the desire. Personally, I wouldn't object to such, even if done in perhaps a manner like a single player story mode where we can see the interaction of characters with one another before and after fights, bringing out a bit more character in them, creating more appeal. As for the rest though, I can't really object to their choices, I understand thaty're trying to go with a specific art style, even if it does seem a bit odd to others, I think it's somewhat for the sake of balance, and being different from other similar style games of the genre.
Are you saying you don't there's lore? There actually is, and it's great.
