The Slight has a surprisingly long range, and you finish airborne, making punishing tricky. However, it's their only combo starter as Stulte said, and you can dodge immediatly afterward, if you don't, you're in for a world of hurt.
The groundpound has a lot of strenght and steering, making it decisive and most of the time deadly since it put you in the perfect spot for ANOTHER groundpound, but it has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ range, so just take it head-on with a recovery or nAir depending on your weapon.
You Don't
Gauntlets are too fast to counter and must be removed from the game. They true combo you to your death, and your only hope is that your opponent f**ks up a combo.
Find out their patterns. Not just gauntlets in general, but your specific opponent.
XD i can feel the salt eating away at my kidneys
People say that the gauntlets slight is thier only combo starter but they can also start one with a Nair, a dlight or a dair if used correctly, gauntlet strings usually have alot of dodge frames because of the way they function in the game and how no gauntlet legend has amazingly high dexterity so mashing the dodge button always works for me to get out of the combo. The ground pound is both tricky to deal with off stage AND onstage, the best way i would say to handle them is to instead of dodging sideways time you dodge either upwards or neutral. When they do it onstage just get far enough out of range so they cant steer towards you and punish with a decent range move. Gimping and stage control also works well against them if they are offstage because of thier predictable recovery that goes straight up and not very high
Hope this helps, if not find a GOOD gauntlet main online and ask them for a 1v1 together to maybe help you learn, hope it goes well
But seriously countering gauntlets is implausible. If the developers cared about us, they would remove gauntlets and all legends with gauntlets from the game.
Totally not childish in any way, shape, or form.
Maybe try some of the things i said to counter gauntlets, i used to struggle with them until i found a few tricks to counter them (like mashing dodge after being hit by a side light) so maybe this might help you deal with gauntlets easier
I know that the hardest part about playing gauntlets is the short range. Also I could be wrong but it seems like you have to hit your opponent a lot to do significant damage, so picking a high-def legend is a good call.
Grab your lance. If you can aim worth a spit, it shouldn't be too hard to keep them away from you.
