It's because cliche characters are optimal for these kind of games. We don't get to know anything about the characters, no story, no characzer development, only a bit lore that no one cares about. So in order to make the players sympathize with the characters, the developers have to make them generic and filled with cliches. It literally makes them recognizable at first sight. So it's not fair to assume brawlhalla stole from lol because lol didn't invent pirates, knights, weaboo cat-girl hybrids, edgy goth girls, werewolfs, etc. They all have been done before
