Indeed this game is now what i'd (and most others) consider, "Not Newbie Friendly" with more and more people joining brawl there's been huge spikes in really strong players or new talent trying to sharpen their skills this especially goes for even un-ranked game-modes, unlike in the past where the game seemed a lot more on the "chill" side.
Experimental isn't recommended for casuals, it's the mode for test-features and where veterans/experts/pros usually gather, if you're looking for more casuals modes try:
-Strikeout
-FFA (Free-For-All)
-Friendly 2v2's (Mixed results though)
-Customs games
I used to rarely play experimental because I felt like it mostly matched me with people that were still learning the game. I admit the playerbase has gradually changed into something more hardcore, but experimental matchmaking feels like it's changed a lot in just a few short weeks.
