The other practical thing is that you can have contact with a lot of people without them having to be in your friends list. When you see a clan member online you can join him, invite him, message him etc.
Also, some clans organize events like tournaments for example.
Other than that it's mostly a fun little prestige/ community thing or just for memes. Some clan's that take it seriously might take creative use of the ranking features which could be exciting.
To answer your specific questions:
1. No, there aren't any rewards, at least not from the game itself. The experience points are just for prestige but I've never seen anyone care about it.
2. Sure, people in a clan can organize activites and stuff. If you want to fight against another clan with your clan you have to organize this outside of the game though or through a custom lobby if you're lucky.
3. No this is not possible unfortunately
4. The only 2 I know of are
/c : Write a message to the whole clan
/motd : Change the message of the day (a message that every member sees when they log in). Only possible as leader and maybe Officer? Not sure
