Ranked 1v1 is absolute GARBAGE at Platinum levels of play.

After spending a hefty amount of time playing Experimental after the end of last season, I tried to go back to play some Ranked to see if I'd improved at all. While I can say I have improved, I then learned why I stopped playing Ranked in the first place...

Everyone is SO passive.

Now let me get this straight, I am a pretty aggressive player, with ~409 hours as I'm writing this post. I'm on average a Platinum 2 player. I nearly always swing first. I wouldn't say I'm trigger happy, I just like to keep the enemy on their toes. Now, in experimental I always found that people were, while still passive for the most part, a TON more aggressive than they were in Ranked. I understand it's because of ELO, but it's just ridiculous at times. The game heavily rewards passive play, and I honestly despise the state of the game at the moment (in the Ranked setting anyway). An example of the difference between Experimental and Ranked playstyles that I've found is; if I start a combo on someone, instead of dodging and attempting to punish me while I miss an attack in the string they'll simply back away and reset the fight to stand-still. I understand what is classed as "fun" is up to the person playing, but surely this can't be a fun way of playing the game.

Brawlhalla is a great game, I really do enjoy playing it. However, it is abnormally frustrating for a fighting game. This game, mainly on Ranked, has made me rage a decent amount of times, simply due to the fact that people are SO AGAINST attacking first. 95% of players in Platinum play parry and it's just genuinely frustrating. It can allow a decently less skilled opponent to be on equal ground with me simply if they're playing passive and I'm playing aggressive.

I've basically lost all motivation to climb the ranked ladder. For those of you in Diamond and beyond, I salute you for your tenacity in dealing with the Platinum ranks. It may be similar up there in Diamond, but I wouldn't know.

Boi you need to understand 2 things:

1-The devs will rarely take suggestions (of any type), and to counter passive play, you just need to be more passive. (it's very boring but that's the only way)
2-Almost everyone in ranked knows that to win they just need to be passive af and wait, so there will only be SOME agressive players in experimental and other casual modes.

I know, I'm not suggesting anything to the devs I'm simply venting my frustrations.

And believe me, I do play passive to counter the other person if I *really* want to win, but it's not fun for me, hence why I play Experimental.

I only ever play ranked so that I don't lose my plat border, and that's it. maybe when I get better I'll do the same thing for diamond, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. however, a friend of mine is a cross main, and is extremely aggressive yet could probably be diamond if he really tried, so it's not like being aggressive really STOPS you from climbing the ranks, but it just requires you to read your opponent better.

Maybe reach diamond, then you will want to go back to platnium. God just appreciate that your even platniumm and quit complaining you crybaby.

at this point rank doesn't even mean ♥♥♥♥, it just means how passive you are.

Exactly, I got to diamond with orion a couple of times. Yeah, i use orion, that means im aggresive as hell, and winning on ranked in platinum is more of a thing of eventually learning how other mains work. For example, if i fight X weapon ill know he will probably use X attack, so i can imagine how to counter him. they can be passive all they want but if you are patient (not passive) you can easily predict them.

this game rewards patient players, not passive.

(Yeah, i get called spammer a lot everytime i win tho.)

no, you can be aggressive up until higher levels of play, where the game becomes a battle of who is more passive. you can jump three times, use a recovery attack, AND dodge in any direction, which gives you far too much freedom when it comes to movement making it almost impossible to read your enemy if they know how to mix up their options. at higher levels of play, they additionally dash and jump around to make themselves hard to hit, increasing the chance of their opponent missing so they can get an easy punish.

You can still play aggressively, you just have to do it smarter. If all you do is rush and attack as soon as you get close, you're going to get punished. Sometimes I stumble upon really good aggressive players that wreck my ass by having a good movement and making me constantly guess from where they're going to attack.

Besides, escaping from the opponent's pressure to neutral is normal. You can't really counterattack during opponent's strings when they have a frame advantage. And if you miss your counterattack, you're going to get into another string, but you won't escape it this time because you've just wasted your dodge.
