How do you dodge?

No. I'm serious. I see people instantly dodge all the time. Yet to get ONE dodge out, I have to press the same button over and over. Mashing. What. Is. The. Dodge. Button?

There’s a dodge cooldown, if that’s what you mean. You have to wait around 2 seconds until you can use dodge again.

Not what I mean. I understand that concept fully and completely. You can't just SPAM dodge, thus that game element. I'm simply confused that, when I press the dodge button, it doesn't happen. Unless I mash it.

After you get hit there's a period when you're stunned and you can't dodge. If your opponent is chaining lots of hits together then you will be stunned often with just a short window between hits, you need to press dodge during the short period when you aren't stunned. Maybe it's a bit more forgiving, I don't know. Some combos are true combos meaning they hit you a second time before the stun from the first ends, you can't dodge out of those. You can try going in training with "show stun" on, hit the bot a few times in short succession and look at the "dodge window", that's how much time you would have to dodge out, measured in frames.

If you're just talking about dodging in neutral then maybe there's something wrong with your controller or keyboard.

Dodge doesn't come out immediately, so you can't dodge everything on pure reaction alone.
