Gonna Start Calling This Brawlhalla Analysis | Artemis Run-down
Well, I promised more run-downs, and I'm delivering. I'm also sick as hell, but that's not gonna stop me! So, Artemis, let's go.

Lore

Alright. The Lore gives us a crap-ton of dramatic exposition, but it gives us some interesting info.

"Philosophers often talk about 'the will of the universe'..
...We may never know if the universe has a will, but we do know it has an immune response...
...An antibody of celestial proportions...
...As the name Orion was spoken, Artemis came into being."

Right, lots of cool stuff here.
So, these quotes probably don't make much sense unless you've read Artemis's Lore, which I recommend you do, especially if you read my stuff, but basically.. When Orion was created, it was considered a "foreign body' in Valhalla, and thus Artemis was created as an "antibody", designed with the sole purpose to destroy Orion, the "infection".

Kinda has some weird implications..

So, the "antibody" took a human form on Earth, called Mary Washington. She's boring as hell, and is kinda obsessed with the legend of Artemis, the Greek goddess, killing the hunter Orion. Hmm, I wonder what that could be foreshadowing...
Anyway, sarcasm aside, when Mary/Artemis's powers first manifested, she took the opportunity to open a wormhole, attempting to get into Valhalla. Oops, she missed, and ended up in the vacuum of space. In a desperate attempt to survive, she used her power to siphon the atmospheres of other worlds, creating an air cocoon. Then, she ripped the core out of a nearby planet, and used it to create her armour.

Couple notes there:
  • Artemis's powers are cool as hell.
  • BMG gets a bit sloppy in their writing here. It says her powers had first manifested when she tried to get into Valhalla, but then she somehow knows how to rip out a planet's core, and take air from other atmospheres? I'd clean that up a little, if I were you, BMG.
  • According to my research, if the planet whose core Artemis used to create her armour was similar to Earth, her armour is made of iron, nickel, and/or some alloy of the two.

So yeah. From there, Artemis went through the universe, destroying pretty much everything in her path. Then she eventually arrives in Valhalla. Still subject to the gods' rules, she has to join the Eternal Tournament. Nix can sense that Artemis is frustrated by this, and they join forces to do... Stuff 'n things. Neither of them have destroyed Orion yet.

Design

Artemis's design effectively makes her an "anti-Orion". Her armour is of a similar design to Orion's, if slightly more sleek, and is strikingly similar to Orion's "Orion for Hire" skin.
Artemis's helm and armour break in points, revealing a dark void full of stars. This suggests that as Artemis's power grew, this void took over her body, and she became a being of pure energy. DARK ENERGY.
OK, quick sidenote to gush. I LOVE dark energy, and just general dark magic kinda stuff, which is why Nix is one of my favourite characters.
Artemis's weapon set, the Lance and Scythe, reflect her Lore. The Lance gives her "space" theme, and the Scythe reminds us that she's in cahoots with Nix.
All of Artemis's Signature attacks involve her manipulating dark energy to deal damage, which looks cool, and fits well with her character.
It's a bit of a stretch, but her stats also make sense with her design. 5 ATK, 5 DEX, 4 DEF, and 8 SPD. Being made of energy, Artemis arguably would have no mass, meaning she could move with infinite velocity, thus speed. Her armour is made of some mixture of iron and nickel, which probably wouldn't do much to protect her from all the magic 'n stuff that people fight with in Valhalla, thus, defence.

Skins

DARKHEART ARTEMIS

Spoiler alert: Darkheart Artemis doesn't use the Darkheart Missile and Darkheart Reaper.

Darkheart Artemis is a similar case to Cursed Mask Yumiko, except the description hints that instead of being corrupted, Artemis's energy has reached its maximum potential.

"The ultimate weapon."

This design features pink energy twisting Artemis's armour and weapons, giving off an air of immense power, which cannot be contained by the shell of iron and nickel.

IRON LADY ARTEMIS

Possibly a reference to the band Iron Maiden, Iron Lady Artemis is Artemis if Artemis ran off some kind of furnace inside her, instead of dark energy. So, uh.. She's an Artemis + Barraza OC? Cool.

ECLIPSE ARTEMIS

Eclipse Artemis's armour has been penetrated, releasing her power. Presumably, she also went through a Sailor Moon-esque transformation to get her new shiny armour. The immense stores of energy now released would probably seep out, slowly destroying the entire universe.
Now that's cool.

And That's Artemis!

So, what d'you guys think of this run-down? If you have anything to add or suggest, please don't hesitate to voice your opinions in the replies! I really do enjoy doing these, and I will definitely be making more in the near future.
As always, thanks for reading.
