How to make PS4 controller work without DS4Windows
I use a ps4 controller connected via usb to play Brawlhalla, and DS4 stopped working, Brawlhalla won't recognize the controller on it's own and I have no idea what to do.

The dongle is fine, I just don't like using bluetooth that much so I'm gonna buy a windows 10 compatible controller.
You are on windows 10 then?
It's probably a driver issue. Windows 10 is notorious asf for reverting drivers

Which means...you gotta reinstall the driver every time you want to use it.*

It'd explain why windows isn't recognizing it!
It had worked for ages before without deleting the driver. Just gonna buy an xbox controller I don't mind.

It has worked for ages...and now it doesn't...
Don't you think you should maybe test it...to see if it is the driver? That would make sense to me. You know...troubleshooting and all.

I've been trying to test it every day since the error happened. It worked for a sec yesterday when steam big picture opened, but cut out again

That's really odd.
Sorry for assuming there. (I do that a lot)

So you've tried manually updating the driver...
and the controller works everywhere else right? with the same dongle?
And you've already tried re-installing ds4?

I can't really think of what else to try here man. I don't really use controllers myself.
Good luck man, Hopefully the xbox controller works for you.

Shouldn't you be able to use it with Big Screen?
Try desyncing it from your computer, then resync. Also, click "hide DS4" in the options if you haven't already.

Using the xbox controller on my windows 10 PC and I'm getting the exact same issue, just without DS4, Windows isn't recognizing the driver, I just get Code 43; device descriptor request failed.
Never heard of that one before, weird.

Try uninstalling any related drivers, restarting, and downloading them straight from microsoft.

Forgo the whole microsoft update/driver update interface.

using a different cable solved the issue, must be that windows stopped recognizing that certain kind of cable i guess

I don't know why I suggested replacing your dongle.
I thought for sure we were talking about bluetooth xD

Yeah...you can throw out that cable. It sounds like it's bad.
If it happens again, check the cable. Try not to be as rough with this one. Don't tie it into knots or let it get tangled too much either.
