I notice people react less to Slight if I use it as a followup from Dlight.
In the air, Sair is also the best option, it doesn't have the priority of Dlight, but is surprisingly far reaching. I get caught offguard by it a lot.
As usual, speed dodge is your friend. The main difference with Scarlet is not really reach, but priority : Scarlet can crush through your opponnent attack with her own, because of how far back her hurtbox is compared to the hammer and the lance, but if you are purely talking about reach, Dlight, Slight and Sair are not really behind.
Basically, instead of attacking directly into your opponnent en outprioritizing his move, you should take him from a dead angle, that's the main difference.
Really fast, and easy to hit with.
