big difference between trying your best and being a tryhard, tryhard use negative emotion as fuel for their motviation to try, they get steamed when the slightest thing goes wrong, in short they are wannabes. make tryers GREAT AGAIN.
while its anoying to be defeated by someone edge gaurding and weapon hoarding (since i dont)
if i cant get past that its still my fault
still its just good manners to be polite and helps abate the sheer salt
if my victory results in less salt for the guy then ive done them a favour and thats a good deed

but thats just me

*reading the comment below*
wait people actaully say that O.o, what idiots!!!

Because some people like to try to play at less than 100%, so when they fight someone who is actually trying to win 100%, or is just better than them, they get upset because they don't want the other person to think they are better than them because they aren't "trying" as much as the other guy. So they will say "tryhard" as an insult excuse for themselves not trying as hard as the other guy did.

Because any excuse is a good excuse.

I'd like to be able to lose a match and feel good about my skill simply by saying "yeah, but this guy DARED try his best to win ! I'm actually way better !", but I can't, I always feel like it's my fault for not being good enough. Lucky them.

i wouldnt say its a bad thing to feel that way. acknowledging your faults is the first step to being better
people who just hide from their faults are cowards and just stunt their own development
just be carefull not to get depressed ;)

A tryhard is someone who is desperately trying to win. They're not fun to play against.
You can tell if someone is tryharding.
Sometimes people in lower elo's confuse this with actually playing someone better than them.
But there is a difference.

I'd rather face someone who far outclasses me but is pretty calm about it than someone who's pulling every annoying trick in the book.

Go ahead and tryhard. Some players can't take the heat. Others will make you tire yourself out, if you throw everything you have at them at once. Pacing is needed for a good overall experience.

I have the perfect answer for this. Some people spend time to learn combos and actually play the game to their full potential, instead it is just soiled by a lil movespammer who doesn't wanna actually try to get good at the game, but use cheap tactics to just get their elo up.
Just to add to it, after the game they usually act like they are the best player in the world by saying "ez" or something like that, when they overall are just a movespammer who can't play the game how it was supposed to be played. Now this does not become a problem in higher elos but is mostly around gold/silver.

There are actually two kinds of tryhards:

The first kind is really good and does their best in all their matches. They may goof around every once in a while, but even if they completely stomp you they rarely gloat(these are the ones you're thinking of).

The second kind is also really good and does their best but also never ♥♥♥♥♥ around and tends to be rude and ♥♥♥♥ talk(these are the ones people hate).

It's less about how hard the person is trying and more how good or bad of a sport they are that gets others to call tryhard(it also matters how salty the match loser is).

I disagree with this completely.
Combos don't show ♥♥♥♥ about skill. And just make the game easier.
It's no different from a move-spammer, a gimper, or a kid who plays passive asf.

I see the point you're making here, but I always felt tryhards were the kids who aren't actually good at the game, acting all hyper and doing ♥♥♥♥ just to win.
You can see how frantic they play vs someone who is actually good.

Actually, you're right. There are three kinds of tryhards.

Well that'll teach me to read the first sentence and skim the rest of the post.
