Update deleted my whole ass game?
It wants to download all 123 gigs again, and I noticed there was a 100 gig chunk of suddenly freed up space on my HD. I have to hope it didn't delete my save, too.

It didn't go that far but yeah
SAME. I had 50 GB of free space left on the same drive as Rebirth, but suddenly when trying to update it says not enough storage then my game suddenly DELETED, only somewhere 20-30 remains in rebirth folder WTF
this is how patches have worked on steam for 10 years
hopefully you have cloud storage turned on. This patch was stupid though, I have to reinstall the whole game because it wanted 273 gb of space to implement a 10gb patch and my ssd only had 210 available. not very cool.
Time to turn off automatic updates, I guess.

I should. Hopefully I don't need to have that much space free, it's just not feasible for me right now
worst case scenario you just do like I did and delete/reinstall. unfortunately for me that means i'm not playing tonight, hence why I'm on here complaining lol
I failed to notice there even was an update until I had played for several hours today, took a break, and noticed a "1 of 1 items complete" on my queue. But the save files appeared to be untouched.

What do you mean?
he got slow internet, few hundred megs download vs 150gb download
Why delete the game then?

he did not have enough space, the way the patch works is that it downloads the patch files, then uses them to recreate key game files, which means it doubles up many of the files until it can swap the files out.
Oh I was hoping for a solution to the verifying taking 8 hours

not possible, it depends on cpu speed and drive IO speed.
