FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH
The mini games are killing this for me.
For clarification, it’s been decades since I played the OG FF7. God I feel so old saying that.

I remember the original having ‘mini-games’. I have been enjoying Rebirth so far, and just dealing with the mini-games as they come. However, today I arrived at Costa Del Sol.

The constant collection of mini-games just totally killed the flow of the game for me. The entire Costa Del Sol just felt like one huge chore.

And whatever that football game was with Red XIII, was just awful.

The fact that you do all of this, right off the back of a Blood Queen tournament makes it all the more annoying.

Yes. You can forfeit the tournament. But momma didn’t raise no quitter. So despite me being terrible at Blood Queen, I persisted until I won stuff that I’ll never use. Except… maybe the Assess earrings. And an achievement to permanently remind me of the ordeal.

Has anyone else felt the same about these mini-games, or is my age just starting to show?

Please tell me this is the worst of it and I can just get back into the actual game.

I'm enjoying the minigames so far. I don't get all the whining about them, they are optional.
I'm at Juno and I find them a lot more relaxing than the minigames in OG. The minigames in OG are really pass or fail, you need to reload a save to retry. You can retry everything in this as many times as you want.
Even the card game in FF8, you lose a card if you lose the match.... it's kinda harsh.
So the way I've seen it, the mini-game heavy areas are meant to break up the monotony of the normal gameplay. There's very few areas that are filled with them, Costa del Sol being one and Golden Saucer being the other. And Golden Saucer is only really if you want to get collectibles, you can mostly skip after the first play through. I haven't been past Ch.10 yet, so I couldn't tell you if they are intensive anywhere else.

Of course, the OG FF7... yeah, no, there was still an insane amount of minigames. Particularly if you wanted to get the Golden Chocobo (you know, for the Knights of the Round materia). Races. Oh dear Red, the races...
I don't mind them for the most part, but I missed Red's Silver necklace weapon because I hated that football mini game.

It's just pool bro, it was so easy to do
Is only one real solution to the mini games and i HATE recommending mods/'trainers to people. But its ONLY real solution to getting the things you want without having to endure the frustration that is the mini games in this...

Don't feel bad. I started doing that too. I only care about the main story, combat sim and queen's blood. Most of the minigames are a mix of boring, awkward controls or a waste of time.

Japanese devs like Square Enix have a tendency of NOT respecting the players time like other AAA studios in the industry. Towers, lifesprings, summoning crystals, excavation hunts, capturing moogles, and many other forms of intel gathering for Chadley are all unnecessary tasks in each regions that are all objectively bloat.

I can give them slack on the excess mini games as these were all present in the original game. There was so much content in the original FF VII that you were never expected to complete most of the content. However, all this artificial bloating that has been added on top of this already excess content is just too much at certain times of the story.

Obviously, if you have grown overly-attached to the story and characters of final fantasy, i can see how these players can just sit there and play 150 hours undeterred by the games horrible pacing.
I'm guessing you would be happier with 40 hours of random encounters and then 20 more of end game grind to get a gold chocobo and then getting to max level so you could take out the weapons?

It's easy to complain about time sinks while forgetting about previous time sinks.

But the difference in this game is non of what you mentioned is needed. This isn't a hard game. You don't need to do everything to be a high enough level to continue.

When you specifically forget that the original could be completed in 20-30 hours even with all the grinding/minigames/sidequests.
I don´t like some of the mini games either, so I will just do the content I enjoy and skip the rest. Like the flying chocobo ..it´s pretty awful
Might not even finish all the towers and chadley stuff.
The story is great and the combat fun so no problem IMO.
