Ubisoft inspired garbage
& we used to love that ♥♥♥♥. The silly distractions along the way that brought a relaxing change of pace after grinding for levels for hours.
There is a lot of content padding tho which in OG one was just random encounters.
Some of that content padding feels very silly, but looking for special monsters to kill them for rewards is a nice thing.
It's not just the mini games it just pointless prompts like with the Life Stream and analyse things for the summons in the caves.
Don't get me started on Queen's Blood. After doing the prologue and finally able to explore Kalm, do you think the very first thing I want is a tutorial on a damn card game?
Man, I can't effing STAND that card game.

Yes the original had them paced out, in rebirth they went all in on mini games and crammed them all way to close together many of which are required to move the story forward. The world map stuff that somehow made it into the conversation in this thread is as far as I am now entirely optional and nets your some Materia or lore and such, that doesn't bother me as I can choose not to do it.
there are only a few in the main story, even the card event on the boat can be skipped
