I'm not saying you have to do all of the side content, but you might want to find a happy medium between skipping most the game, and doing all of it.
You can get most of the materia you miss from a mini-game for sell 1-2 chapters later typically.
You do not need a god tier build and "god tier" builds are intended for hard mode, not dynamic, normal, and easy which you can simply swap to anytime if you are having difficulty.
Summons are largely bad but those are a minor controlled element you can easily access very quickly if there is one you want.
Skill trees will not be mostly empty. You may not get the final Folio party level but you can get quite a bit of the stuff, more than enough to readily beat the game.
At least your argument isn't that they should do all of it but find a balance of some content, perhaps the parts they enjoy, rather than all of it.
