Is it even advisable to play HL2 with this mod in 2022?
Actually, one would think that this mod is the better basis to experience HL2 again. Until you read through the reviews. In these is reported of bugs that are already fixed in HL2, of stuttering, that the mod is poorly optimized, that the mod would improve almost nothing in the graphics, of frequent crashes and freezes and that this mod would be based on an outdated version of the engine.
When I read that, I was like, "Looks like this update needs an update."

I have the impression that if you adjust / improve the graphics of the game according to your needs with the help of this guide #1 you will have a much better gaming experience.

Or wait for the Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection #2.

Thanks for your interest, however there is some stuff to clarify.

Update runs on the same version of Source / code as default HL2. I have seen some comments about "sdk 2013" or whatever, that false. Same issues are also in original and some were recently fixed in Steam Deck beta build of the original game.

HL2 update only improves the game levels and takes advantage of the unused visual tech that was not implemented when game was ported to "Orange Box". You should not expect lens flares, extreme glowing, custom texures/models etc.. that's not the point of this update. But you can always mod it the way you want.

We will update the update once all code fixes are out of beta. :)

Thanks for the information.
However, one can get the impression that the mod has not been maintained for a while. According to the update history #1, the last patch is from 2015.

On another topic, do you have any idea when you will be releasing the Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection?

There are some minor tweaks that are better than what vanilla HL2 can provide, for instance the fog on the coast level has been fixed, although there are questionable changes to the skyboxes. Overall nothing groundbreaking, as for the status of the mod, what do you think?

Last update was in 2015. 6 years later, we still don't know anything about the new versions, we've seen no screenshots, the author keeps silent and at most just confirms that nothing of value will be updated (textures, models, etc). Has he been squishing minor bugs for 6 years now? Just download some HD textures, models, etc. And mod the game to your taste. I'd be surprised if the remastered collection releases this year or the next year or in 2024 and if it does don't expect anything groundbreaking.

Are you talking about the Tyler McVicker video? Nothing of what was said by him struck me as interesting, workshop support is nothing to write home about, you already have a crap ton of mods in moddb and gamebanana, etc.

Neither was the original for ages.

To answer the question you asked: yes. I have no idea if this version is perfect; what I do know is that the normal HL2 has extreme bugs and looks/feels nothing like the game I remember a decade ago. I'm still not sure if it's because of hotheaded Valve leads demanding to tinker with the product or whether the game just isn't compatible with modern systems, but the experience is much more well-preserved with this mod than the original program.
