Like Grey Goo? Try Universe at War
Whilst not availible on steam anymore, it should still be availible for PC.

It's always been terribly optimized. I enjoyed the game years ago, thought it was pretty cool but the load times on a powerful PC where unacceptable. A number of my friends had similar issues. Too bad, also had promise.

hmm... i still play it monthly.

The load time was pretty good. and on LAN this game plays amazingly with it's concept.

Not sure how GFWL goes tho... never tried, never will... and i believe GFWL still works actually, just need to separately download the GFWL update client...

The units also feel more interesting than GG, but then again, GG goes for old school-ness...

I didn't like Universe at War for many reasons back then, however the hiearachy was had a cool concept - those giant walkers.

I have the CD right here. When I started playing, I was used to CnC Generals, where tanks and infantry ~5-hit kill eachother and the game felt pretty fast because of that. I had some issues adapting to the low damage in comparison, and using abilties was a bit awkward. Maps and resources could use some work too, the Masari outlive everyone in that regard, which was pretty clear when fighting AI.

The teams were all unique and amazing, giant walkers for the Hierarchy, to a digital highway for Novus, and swapping stances for the Masari. The concept was actually really good. UaW needs a sequel, definitely.

Grey Goo is as far as I can remember Universe at Wars inofficial sequel. You see many concepts from that game taken over to the factions of Grey Goo (Novus grid building + Masari Teleportation went into the Humans, The customisation aspect of the hierarchy went into the Beta, the reliance on a few big units instead of a base is goo style.)

Ah yes. universe at war.

Horrible controls, a faction that has one button foe eraser jet... (the electric deathpsin things...) and of coruse the horribe micromangement of specia lskills.

I aslways resent devs doign that.

why am i supposed to tell every soldier when to use his little perk.... I am the commander not the soldier... the soldier ought to know his stuff.

Absence of power micro is a redeeming thing for gey goo.
