goo race for multiplayer
I need help using the goo in multiplayer. does anyone have any suggestions to counter early rush. this race seems weak, it takes too long to get heavy units and overall the other races just wreck me so easily. i have tried multiplying and running but i just get found and killed. I am determined to get good at playing this race. any advice would be appreciated. oh and the goo tech seems useless :(

Under multiplayer, in the "replays" tab on the left, search for "mendel" and watch some of his games. He is our best goo player, rank 1-4.

Goo fundamentals are:

1) scout and migrate away from start. You want to split a mom as early as you can, but if they open 1 ref 2 factory you may need 1-2 smalls to defend first.

2) try to use hit and run, letting your units get damaged but not die. Then run to let your units heal. Morph before the fight and heal to full before engaging.

3) learn how to use your units. Striders are your bread and butter unit. They have enough hp to hit and run. Against anti armor (revolver, stalker) it helps to make some drover as meat shields for strider. Drover are also good to aoe clumps of units. Often one radiant can help with brush vision. As they tech up, get large proteans (6 armor), bastion, destructor. Start your main upgrade. I prefer destructor bounce, but destructor splash and exploding bastions have their place as well.

3) migrate to a place with two spigots near eachother, and patrol between them to get extra undigested orange catalyst. When you split a mom, leave the new mom there and move the one with undigested catalyst. This assures you are getting the maximum resources.

When playing 2vs2 it's very hard for a goo player to survive because there isn't really enough space on the map where to hide the mother goo's (i think the other team mate has to support the goo player to help him getting many mother goos). That's why i wish there would be rebalancing of the goo. Mother Goo's get destroyed much to fast by other units and the rate at they earn the ressources is much too slow in a 2v2 game. That's my personal opinion. It's hard to balance this game as it muchly depends on what type of game is played. In 1vs1 a good goo player will be able to rush or outsource the other player. For 2vs2 Goo is not the best choice (watch some replays and judge yourself....the goo player is often beaten very early)

I think Goo gets beaten so early in 2v2 is because they are the strongest race mid/lategame so people focus on the Goo early on when they are vulnerable, which is their weakness. But I didn't play too much in MP, just a thought.

Yes, that's why i think the other team player has to help the goo faction in the early game. But do you think he can evolve his own economy and help to protect the mother goo's?

He has to. 2v2 is usually about focusing one of the enemies and harass him together. So either the other team tries to attack first or the second player has to send help to the harrassed player.

Goo can do okay in 2v2 with a H/B partner, by "hiding" and "sharing" the same spigots as their partner in the start. If the Goo can hold off the 2v1 until his partner gets an econ going, then the Goo can quickly split to 4/6 mother, and then they push back.

It's really hard to do this as Goo with a shroud partner though, because moms can't share spigots with shroud extractors. Combine that with the fact that most shroud like to open super greedy, and usually the Goo will just get killed at the start and the shroud will be alone.
