This or ashes of singularity
How is this game? I am trying to get into some RTS again and was wondering how this is and how it compares to some of the other modern RTS games out there. thanks...

Do you prefere games like C&C and Starcraft or Supreme Commander and PA? If you like the former more then you should choose Grey Goo. If not then Ashes of the Singularity.

to be honest, i found both games to be quite boring. Grey Goo is too buggy and lacks depth when compared to something like starcraft and cnc, and ashes is supcom but worse. Id say go either for some older titles or stay with sc2, grey goo isnt really worth it

When it comes to multiplayer Grey Goo has quite a lot depth to it :) The problem is just that on the surface it looks simple and slow. But if you try to be actually good there are so many decisions to make on when to build what and how you send your units. Compared to SC2 it is less tight control wise but it manages the map control aspect better. That said if you want to play multiplayer you have to use the discord as matchmaking is not working atm and there are not enough players to just randomly find matches.

EDIT: If you want to play campaign i would recommend just trying Sc2 as the first campaign is free 2 play and gameplay wise still the height of rts campaigns.

Ashes of the singularity , especially if you look at replay value cause it has one of the best ai's I remember in RTS and more than 100 maps with the dlcs. That game did not have full recognition imho , it is a sort of mix between supreme commander with company of heroes capture nodes. In both games I love the sci-fi settings and they are both slow paced aswell (compared to starcraft)

I would avoid goo...I played it back years ago, during the free weekend....and that alone was enough for me to figure out that this game looks pretty, and LOOKS interesting...but is a very shallow clickfest....after a day and a half I got bored of it...it feels like it promises a lot, the feel is there, but it lack substance...ashes....I am on the fence about that also....but I heard they're is a modding community...my only issue with ashes is that it is no sup commander....and feels like you just amass large amounts of units and spam them...without thinking...I would say no to goo, and a "maybe" but not quite to ashes....have you tried sup com 1, and 2? they seem to offer a lot more depth....also large scale...goo reminds me more of startrash...i mean the shallow. brainless clickfest starcraft....

I agree...but with an addition that starcraft is also boring, and not worth it, due to its shallow nature....the good old sup com 1, and 2 were offering a lot more depth....I had such high hopes for ashes, yet it feels like a unit spammy coh / sup com wannabee, and failing in both regards...

to be fair, starcraft is a little too micro intensive for my taste, but its still a damn good game with a lot of depth, much more than grey goo. ashes is just straitgh boring as hell tho, its a worse version of supcom. Like i said, if you want something similar to goo, starcraft 2 and command and conquer 3 (both tib wars and its expansion) are very good, and if you want something like ashes, forged alliance is the way to go.

i would personally pick up grey goo when it is heavily discounted if you're not desperate, i really enjoyed the story but the online side of things were really unappealing to me. not to mention this game has a few years on the clock doubtful there would be much of an online community left if not all gone

hope this helps, other games from petroglyph studios include C&C Remastered and universe at war earth assault the former being released last year and the latter about 12 or so years ago.

Ashes is the better game, as far as rts goes.
Grey goo has the better story.
Supreme commander forged alliance Forever (the fan updated and maintained multiplayer and skirmish lobby and mod vault) is best in all.

They're both kind of bland and boring, to be honest. I haven't played a good RTS since Red Alert 3 / Starcraft 2 / SupCom Forged Alliance.

This ^^^^ Youre better of playing these games instead of either Grey Goo or Ashes.

Besides, Ashes is kind of broken for nvidia users right now (theres a nasty graphical bug that meeses up performance and makes the game look ♥♥♥♥) and the devs dont give a crap so i would stary far from it.

Starcraft shallow? I nearly spat my drink out reading that. I guess every RTS out there is shallow for you?
