you shot down the ladder, climbed up through the vents, jumped down on the wire spool, and it still didn't collapse?? That's extremely odd.
What platform are you on? Windows, Mac, or Linux?
Exactly.
I'm on a PC. Windows 7.
I wonder if it's because (if I remember correctly) I actually discovered the ladder and went up it first. I didn't go beyond and discover the spool chamber and then have to backtrack. I first entered the spool chamber by falling into it from the upper shaft.
I'll try it again in a bit. If it's the same, I'll try deleting and reinstalling the entire game.
Would a copy of the save data help identify if there's a state problem at work, John?
So far stuck at this point and cannot advance further.
Version 1.42
This log is of my last game attempt, tried to jump on spool around 6 or 7 times.
Version 1.42
I took a look at the code.. it's pretty simple stuff, and there's no reason why the code should be triggered and then break halfway through. I'm wondering if it's being triggered at all.
When you jump on the wire spool, does it shake at all? Are you sure you're jumping from up top? Also, how's your framerate at that point? is the game running really slowly? There's a trigger object just at the top of the shute that you fall through, and allows the spool to collapse, instead of just bouncing. it should be literally impossible to not pass through the trigger, as it's actually wider than the entire shute. it could be that if your framerate is REALLY low, arid is falling through the trigger between frames, but that's quite doubtful as well.
I wonder... it is perhaps possible that if the trigger fired, but the spool didn't collapse (again, which should be impossible) and then the game was saved somehow (you'd have to backtrack to the elevator to do that) then it could be that when you load the game, the trigger is deleting its self, because it thinks it's already been triggered... in such an event, the save file would be basically broken. However again, I can't imagine that this shoud happen...
No way to get the spool down I don't think!
