Wire spool [spoiler]
The wire spool is not falling through the floor. I am dropping onto it from the high shaft above, accessed via the ladder that is shot down in the previous area. The floor refuses to collapse no matter how many times I've fallen onto the spool.

I also experienced a bug when I was jumping up and down on it in frustration after my dozenth attempt and I flew across the screen, stopping above the ladder that is shot down. I was able to move around after that fine, but the spool will still not fall through the floor.

I've restarted the game several times, and verified the cache (1 file redownloaded), and it remains the same.

Any help?

fascinating, we haven't encountered that issue before. so just to be clear:

you shot down the ladder, climbed up through the vents, jumped down on the wire spool, and it still didn't collapse?? That's extremely odd.

What platform are you on? Windows, Mac, or Linux?

Exactly.

I'm on a PC. Windows 7.

I wonder if it's because (if I remember correctly) I actually discovered the ladder and went up it first. I didn't go beyond and discover the spool chamber and then have to backtrack. I first entered the spool chamber by falling into it from the upper shaft.

I'll try it again in a bit. If it's the same, I'll try deleting and reinstalling the entire game.

So I deleted and completely reinstalled the game. Same issue still. Unless I am doing something wrong, I'm stuck on this bug.

Before release, I'd definitely jumped onto the wire without discovering it first, so that aspect was at least test tested. It does indeed sound like a bug.

Would a copy of the save data help identify if there's a state problem at work, John?

I can't imagine how it would. It's a little scary to be honest - I ran through the game before uploading the patch, but if this is happening to blowback, it should be happening to everyone (and I dont' think it is???) I'll have to try to reproduce it when I'm back home tomorrow, but tbh I have no idea where to start.. the save system shouldn't effect this at all. The only thing I could imagine is that for some reason, the player entity isn't actually entering the trigger that I have that makes the spool collapsable... but it's not like you can MISS it...

If it's reproduceable from identical save data, then that would narrow it down immensely (some value not being stored correctly or corrupt save data).

Could use a fix for the spool wire too, I jump from above and land on the spool of wire, it bounces a little but does not break through . I saw a walkthrough video of someone using a controller, the fall on the spool of wire is straight at center. I keep trying to do it under Win7 keyboard and it still usually lands on the very edge of the spool and nothing happens.
So far stuck at this point and cannot advance further.

Hmm, I never felt like I needed to land in the dead centre when playing. Would you be willing to throw a log up to pastebin that includes a play session where you've attempted this (there are details on where the log can be found in the FAQ thread? Also, what number does the game show in the bottom right of the main menu?

This log is of my last game attempt, tried to jump on spool around 6 or 7 times.

Cheers, I'll make note of this for the developer to look at :)

Still have the same problem. Spoll just wobbles but doesn´t crash through the ceiling. What can I do? This bug is game breaking.

This should have been fixed. Looks now

Looking now** I mean, sorry.

I took a look at the code.. it's pretty simple stuff, and there's no reason why the code should be triggered and then break halfway through. I'm wondering if it's being triggered at all.

When you jump on the wire spool, does it shake at all? Are you sure you're jumping from up top? Also, how's your framerate at that point? is the game running really slowly? There's a trigger object just at the top of the shute that you fall through, and allows the spool to collapse, instead of just bouncing. it should be literally impossible to not pass through the trigger, as it's actually wider than the entire shute. it could be that if your framerate is REALLY low, arid is falling through the trigger between frames, but that's quite doubtful as well.

I wonder... it is perhaps possible that if the trigger fired, but the spool didn't collapse (again, which should be impossible) and then the game was saved somehow (you'd have to backtrack to the elevator to do that) then it could be that when you load the game, the trigger is deleting its self, because it thinks it's already been triggered... in such an event, the save file would be basically broken. However again, I can't imagine that this shoud happen...

Bit of a necro thread but... I just encountered this problem too whilst playing on Epic. I fell down the shaft, the floor broke, but the spool is still up there. Wire cutters don't work on it (just says I don't need it yet).

No way to get the spool down I don't think!
