Best Destroyer in your opinion?
I know it is an old game, so I don't expect to get answers quickly.

I've played the game multiple times with Blackgate with the following setup. Yes, I use a mod to make all alien equipment available in the shop, or it will be too painful to grind.

Now I'm getting bored because Dreadnaughts are OP. And it doesn't make much sense lore-wise for a random guy/girl to pilot a ship that is bigger than a space station itself. So I want to fall back to Destroyer class ships.

Which destroyer do you think is the best. I'm leaning towards Arcturus and Minotaur. The former properly has the sexiest look apart from the ugly golden/yellow color. The latter seems to have the most offense power while lacking in defensive.

The Minotaur is my favorite.

It has the added bonus of allowing you to fire your broadsides like the dreadnought class, once charged you can spam them and they still hit like they were charged.

I also think it is the best looking ship in the game.

Old discussion about the two.

I still don't get how that "aim assist" thing works after all those playing times.

Do you need to lock on to a target, shoot it once with a full charge shot, and then subsequence uncharged shot just auto-aim at it? Also, doesn't it only work on a particular broadside weapon or all of them?

Correct. Your first shot needs a fully charged broadside aiming shot. Once you release the fire button to shoot the charged shot, you rapidly press the fire button.

If you pause in your firing, you will have to recharge the aimed shot again.

EDIT: It only works on the projectile broadsides weapons. Not the beam weapons.

If that is the case, isn't projectile broadsides become objectively better than beams?

I never use beams. Too slow and if they miss, it takes longer to recharge.

I very much prefer the Arcturus. The Minotaur is a powerful looking ship no doubt but I prefer toughness, and with Mk 6 Defense that thing wades through fire like nothing.

Mintaur is absolutely the best. WillieSea is mostly correct about the broadside aim asside. You don't actually have to fully charge the broadsides in order for it to work. Just spam them as fast as you can, and if enemies are perfectly lined up at the broadside's direct line of fire, they'll fire way more accurately than normal. You can adjust the aim of this by holding right click (or your relevant controller option for charging/aiming) while you spam, but you will get mixed results firing at further angles from center. It's also less pronounced on the Minotaur than on the dreadnoughts. A Blackgate will have much more accurate fire, but you'll still notice a stream of just a few broadside shots always lining up with the locked target even with a Minotaur, Polaris, or Sorcerer.

Arcturus is hands down the best destroyer hitbox, though. It's short, it's wide, and that means enemy capital ships have less of a target to aim at. It's nice for their beams to actually miss now and then after flying something like a Vanguard or Radovich that is ALL vertical profile.

If you read the link I put in my first post above, you will find I was a skeptic of the Minotaur at first. And I think anyone that is has not learned tactics to use with that specific ship would be skeptical of it as well.

It is more of a attack quickly and run away, rinse and repeat type of ship. Having the deflectors that recharge your shields, using the right booster to quickly disengage, these are the type of tactics you need to use to make the Minotaur shine. And spamming the broadsides from long distances is nice too.

I always end up in the Blackgate, but the Minotaur is my smaller ship favorite. It is just a pain to get.

Haha yeah. I remember that topic. I posted a Twitch clip about the broadside aim assist there.

Zeraph this clip will show you what we mean about the broadside aim assist on the Minotaur/dreadnoughts. It's just extremely awesome and powerful.

Probably the Arcturus, I prefer this ship (as it was & still is) my first Destroyer class after a trade in for something else, can't remember what. Decent broadsides and some defensive capability, I very much prefer this ship more than others in the class and other ships.
