Besides, anyone who sends hit squads after me in order to kill me deserves death in my book. No reason to allow him another chance at sending more hit squads after me later on.

Aside from "roleplay" there's really no reason you should let him live. He tends to drop equipment worth far more than the money he offers to disengage, and you can even take the money and still kill him after he stops combat. Do you still get the 'goodies' if you take the money and then kill him? I thought I tried that once and I did not...

Yes, you still get the bounty and he still drops a cargo container with the goodies even if you take the bribe.

Here's what I just did: Kill him, and as the ship is exploding, answer the hail to get his money AND his goodies!
