Escort missions always have at least one or two "ambush" sequences where you get attacked and you have to destroy all of the attacking ships. Sometimes one or two of the enemy ships will just wander off. This can happen for several reasons... In many cases, the A.I. realizes that they can't win and a few ships turn and try to run. In other cases, it's because the ships got lost trying to find you.
I have seen it where attacking ships can get up to 25 sm away... They are so far away that there's no aggro and everybody just sits there confused. To find them, you'll need to ping. Usually they will have a red "!" sign on them and these are the ones that you must destroy. If you don't see any exclamation points, then it's the closest enemies to you.
'Warp forcibly disengaged' message usually shows during the part of the escort where you are ambushed by a ring of hostile enemies, but seeing as you aren't even able to get moving nor under attack, it might just be glitched somehow.
If you drop and retake the mission, maybe it'll fall back in line.
